Happy Saturday!

I recently received my engagement photos and I'm unhappy with them. :-( We spent about 2 hours with 2 locations and 2 outfits. I first received about 60 images and only 9 were from the first location/outfit. I was highly disappointed. I emailed the photographer about my concerns and she said they were having issues uploading and some were left out by mistake. She added about 25 more photos of the first location/outfit.

What I'm really disappointed about is the same poses we have. Over and over. We're either embracing or looking at each other for the most part. I only really like about 8 of them. Only one is my favorite. Out of all the photos, 7 have us both facing the camera and two of those are the same pose just landscape & portrait. They just seem super generic and not artistic at all. The only close up photos we have of our faces are the couple of shots I specifically requested. I'm just surprised she didn't get any on her own volition as a professional photographer. Sone are sooo awkward.

as any else disliked their engagement photos? I see so many post how thrilled they are. :-( am I overreacting?

I have always hated engagement photos. I think they all look awkward. And posed. And rarely represent the couple or their relationship. All they ever seem to represent to me is, "We paid for a photoshoot."

My fiance and I knew that going in, and were not going to do one till I brought this up to my photographer, who included it in her package. She told me she likes to do them because it gives her a chance to work with us, get to know us and give us all a shorthand for taking photos together, that way the wedding day we don't lose time to learning how to take pictures in the moment.

I told my photographer how I felt. We talked about it and what WOULD make more sense for us. I told her how we live for Halloween and actually got engaged in costumes on Halloween at a haunted house and had a TON of costumes of couples. We picked the ones who were actually epic love stories and did those.

Now that particular thing is our bag and not for everyone. But the fact that we jam on cosplay, and this was something we could do, made the experience infinitely more fun, far more useful for us, and the photos turned out wayyyy better than they would have done if we'd have tried the standard thing.
This is how they turned out (some not all and not fully edited)

Maybe you could do something like that something unique to you as a couple.

I really like these two!! Especially the further away shot.

The first one is just slightly awkward, I think it is just the position that you guys are in.

Just remember that you probably won't like every single photo that the photographer takes, but you should like the majority of them.

I also loves a handful of ours and the rest were 'meh' to me too. The few I like I do really love bit there are many photos where I'm like why didn't she tell us to move that one awkward arm or why didn't she tell me to move that stupid hair. Unfortunately, I think we're critical of ourselves. Your photos looks beautiful and you do only need a few. I would say as long as your happy with some, you'll get your wedding photos soon enough and they're be gorgeous I'm sure!
