WR: Bridal Shower...part 2? Advice!!!

Hollywoll, on April 25, 2011 at 8:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

So, I'm having a bridal shower this Sunday that my MOH and crew are doing. My family and FH's family are allll invited.

That being said, I got a call from someone at my church if I wanted to have one that THEY could throw for me. She said it would be a small thing, but I'm a little uncomfortable, which I openly said to her. I am still relatively new at church, although my parents and sister have gone for about 5 years. It's the same religion as our old church, but I started going to college right when they started the church. I don't really know ANYONE there but a handful of people.

I feel awkward and hate being the center of attention, so I need a different perspective. What do you ladies think I should do?

Addition info: I am pretty desperate for gifts. FH and I are both students and basically poor, lol. This wedding has been carefully budgeted to afford it...There is an open invite to the church for the wedding, so no faux pas there either.

I agree with DDD let them bless you! By letting them bless you, they are also blessed!

I'd do it. FS and I have absolutely nothing house related, and if it weren't for showers we would still have nothing! We've been so blessed by family and friends, who WANTED to help us and give us gifts. I was extremely nervous and scared about my shower with family because I hate being the center of attention and just hated everyone looking at me. But I got through it. And it was one day. And in the end I was so thankful that we did it because we got so many great gifts, I got to spend time with a lot of fun women, the games were fun (games that didn't make me the center of attention- I made sure to tell the host I would be uncomfortable with that) and it was just a lot of fun in general.

Make sure you have a close friend with you, or your sister, or someone who is outgoing and will make you feel comfortable and talk to you in awkward situations. That helped me a lot Smiley smile

I would let them. Ask your bridal party to go as well. They can migle with guests and talk about wedding stuff for you.

Okay, I see where this is going. Smiley smile

I definitely agree on having my sisters, mom, etc. come along. She just asked today, so I think I will call her back and say it's okay. I feel more comfortable knowing I'm not being a present hog or something. I forget that they're wanting to help me. They're all really nice, I don't know what I'm scared about, lol.

Why dont you have a couples shower at the church so your FH will be up there with you... I definately dont think you should turn them down if the members werent interested they wouldnt have approached you about it.
