Worst thing so far is guest list

CruzWin, on March 7, 2019 at 9:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 10
By far, this is the worst part of wedding planning. From getting addresses, getting correct names and there plus one names. To narrowing down list and feeling like I'm missing someone, or don't have it in my budget to invite everyone. Ughhhh. I can scream.

Yeah getting addresses suck! Everyone puts it off and puts off and then you feel like you have to hound them to get it.

Totally agree. I want 100 but with budget and everything, can only get 50-80..this makes me have to pick and choose people (which i hate) and can definately wait to have to actually rely on people to answer and give addresses, etc -.-

Yup. Guest list was the WORST for me too. From getting everyone's contact information & correct names/spelling, to not being able to invite EVERYONE we wanted to, to future in laws adding people to our already maxed out list months after finalizing.

Guest list information is going to be sorta tricky for us!! FH has already tried to contact his grandfather because he got married and we don’t know how to spell his wife’s name and they moved and we are starting to think he changed his number 🙃 if we can’t track him down he won’t be invited.

Adresses for me was the easiest part of the guest list honestly, the hardest has been satisying everyone with the invities! My parents want everyone in the family invited, my FH's mom wants everyone on her side invited, My FH and I just want our friends, and I am paying for it all and I can't afford to invite the whole world! It was a mess. By far the most stressful part of planning. I feel SO much better than the guest list is mostly done with, just push through! It will get better!

Haha, we only had 1 issue like this really but it was a big one. My grandpa’s brother has a girlfriend who we were of course going to invite too... but I’ve never met her, and I haven’t seen my grandpa’s brother since I was 2. So I ask my grandpa what the girlfriend’s name is and he tells me “Jan.” So I’m like ok...... I can’t just write “and Jan” on his invitation lmao I need a last name! He finally gets me a last name and then tells me her name is “Jen Soandso.” And im like wait.... I thought it was Jan! Then he tells me “oh yeah you’re right it IS Jan!” 🙄😂 it was mostly humorous but frustrating because my grandma kept getting annoyed when I refused to just write “Jan” without a last name (and without being confident that that was even her first name hahaha) or “guest.” I finally managed to get grandpa’s brother’s phone number out of them and called to ask him myself lol.

I feel like if people are going to give you a hard time with giving you the right names and addresses though and not prioritizing giving them to you, then you shouldn’t prioritize inviting them! (My situation being an exception only because my grandpa is 86 so fair enough haha, but young people have no excuse :p)

Getting the guest list sorted is totally the worse part. But you’ve got it! Once you get through this everything else’s feels easier (at least in my experience)

If you sign up for an address book on postable.com (It's FREE!) you can send people the link. A good majority of people filled it out even older relatives and it's all online and easy.

If you haven't, making an Excel spreadsheet is super helpful and a great way to keep track of your guest count. I don't know how far you are with that or if you feel like starting over but it's so easy. I color coded names, whether they RSVP'd yes or no, and putting a 1 or 0 next to their name and making a formula for it to add up so I can see my final guest count total. Also assigning everyone a number and putting it on the RSVP to keep track. We only had one person forget to put their name, but I was able to match it up easily.

I was just going to mention Postable! A friend of mine who is also planning her wedding sent me their link and I was like - HELLO! WHAT IS THIS MAGICAL TOOL?! I used it for our address book and it's been great. Our friends filled out their info from the link and I manually input my family/parents' friends so I have everyone's info in one place. Highly recommend!
