Workout Routine

Christine, on October 17, 2012 at 10:42 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 13

Hey ladies! Back to the gym day #1. Was wondering I am going to start with full body works out, that is what the trainer had me doing back when I was working out. Does anyone have any routines they do or exercises that would like to share? Anything would help me greatly, thank you!

Second what Amy V said! LOVE running. Hate it in the cold, but there is no better feeling after a great run.

I do pushups for my arms - they give me the best results, mainly bc I don't think I lift weights correctly. I do sit ups too... & it may sound crazy, but I find various workout routines on Pinterest.

Squats help with your legs... I posted a routine in another thread that I do that doesn't require any equipment - you can do it anywhere.

In addition to cardio, I love kettlebells!!!! Kettlebell swings are perfect for abs and arms!

I have an old foot injury and running bothers it, as much as I love running. Smiley sad So these days I do a combo of walking, hiking, and videos that I modify for low impact.

Before I got preggers I had started the Insanity DVDs. Holy mama those are difficult. But like Amy I have to do a lot of cardio to keep things tight so I would walk in addition to that.

Yea I have tried the working out at home doesn't work for me maybe after I have a baby cause then it will be harder to get out to the gym. But I need to get my weight down because if I get pregnant now I would be over 200 pounds, not ok!

So my gym plan is usually- 2 days a week 1/2 hour cardio, 1/2 strength training, so that looks like doing the elliptical or stair stepper for 30 mins, then I do combo full body reps, like squats with 10 lb arm extensions, lunges with 10 lb arm lifts, plank with 10 lb arm rows, and I try to vary the postures and weights every two weeks or so. This is my must, Two days of this routine. Then, any other day I can make it to the gym, I do straight cardio for as much time as I have, usually 30 min of running (I'm up to 3 10 minute miles... took a while, but I feel accomplished)- then more lower impact cardio, like the bike or elliptical, I also really enjoy walking on the treadmill on an incline.

Sat. morning is my power yoga day, I wish I could get into more classes during the week, but it just doesnt fit my schedule... I try home practice, but it isnt the same, power yoga just makes me feel so good!!

It's good to rotate do arms one day, legs another. That way they have time to heal.

My FH does 3 hrs a day, 5 days a week... He does powerlifting though lol

As good as cardio can be for weight loss you need to have a balance. Cardio mixed in with weights and resistance training. This is my schedule

monday - cardio 40 minutes (split between running and elliptical)

tuesday - upper body (arms, backs, chest, shoulders) two to three exercises for each muscle group (arms are broken down further)

wednesday - cardio 40 minutes then ab work out (usually 50 to 100 different crunches)

thursday - leg day (usually 5 exercises for my legs)

friday - i have soccer (if i have soccer monday i use that as my cardio)

i started running stairs for my foot speed (for soccer) on saturdays. If I work out saturday Ill usually take monday off.

It is really important to have a balance with weights and cardio. I swear girls I watched a girl who was probably a six 4 switch from just cardio to weights and cardio and the results are amazing.

I agree with Justine. You need a balance of cardio and weights. I did cardio only for several years and the scale and muscle tone never moved. I started incorporating weights and body weight workouts and I have amazing tone right now. Most of my cellulite is gone and my behind has never been firmer. Weights are a girls best friend and squats!

I agree with weights and cardio! I get bored very easily so I am currently mixing up workouts.

    Sunday: rest

    Monday: Insanity in the morning

Tuesday: Insanity in the morning, boot camp at 6pm, turbo kick at 8pm

Wednesday: Run 4 miles in the mornings, boot camp at 6pm (different muscle group than tuesday)

Thursday: Insanity in the morning, boot camp at 6pm, turbo kick at 8pm

Friday: Insanity in the morning, run 4 miles after work

Saturday: Either Insanity or run in the morning, turbo kick at 10am

It is important to switch muscle groups that way when you are sore one place (i.e. my legs are dying from squats), I can focus on shoulders or abs.

In boot camp we normally do circuits of the following:

    warm up:

    -run in place

    -jumping jacks

    -runners stretches

    -squats

    -lunges

    -butt kicks

-inch worms (the worst thing ever) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5IzwmRmXfY

    -bicycles

    -10 lb weight to toes

    -lower ab crunches

-lower ab crunches with upper body added

-russian twists with a kettle ball

Circuits of the following: only 7 excercises per day

1 min each excercise per round (3 rounds)

    - tricep dips

    -wall sits with bicep curles

    - mountain climbers

    - knees to elbows balancing on a bosu ball

    - crunches on a exercise ball

    -bent over deadlift

    -bent over row

    -bicyles

-one arm swing with a kettle ball

    -squats holding a kettle ball

i forgot a bunch but that should help

Thanks Christine B.! My wedding is is less than 3 weeks so it's crunch time. I'm also lucky since FH does insanity and runs with me, my work offers subsidized boot camp IN THE BUILDING, and I have a friend/gym buddy that goes to turbo kick with me. I work better in groups Smiley smile

I hear ya! I wish I had a gym buddy but I don't right now. I was in the best shape of my life before I met DH and my plan is to get back to that asap!
