Who did you take to your first fitting?

Septbride17, on June 1, 2017 at 3:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 44

Hello fellow brides!

My dress arrived today and I am so excited to pick it up!!

My question is:

Is it unusual to go to your first fitting by yourself?

Reason I ask is because I took my BM's and stepmom to pick out my dress, but do I need to bring someone to the fitting with me?

Originally, I wanted to go pick out the dress by myself but my stepmom and BM's said she'd be super hurt if I didn't bring her with me.

I kinda prefer to go alone to be alone with my own thoughts and opinions on my dress this time around, but don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

What did you do for your first fitting when your dress arrived?

Any tips for my fitting?

I went by myself and it was quick and easy. I had my opinion and the opinion of a professional seamstress. I think too many opinions can be distracting. You definitely don't have to bring anyone if you don't want to. Tell them that you appreciate their excitement, but you want to do it by yourself and it'll be a big surprise when they see it on your wedding day. If they don't understand your decision, it's not your problem. They'll be upset for a day or two and it'll probably blow over.

I don't think its strange at all. i think people like to be involved in *choosing* the dress and looking around the bridal salons but they don't need to come to all the fittings, as those are more strictly business. i brought my mom and sister because i wanted their opinions on the fit and the length of the bustle but you don't need anyone.

I brought my MOH (my best friend) to all my fittings. She insisted on helping me pick the dress and then came to all fittings. It was great to do so, because she saw stuff I didn't see or care enough to notice. Quite honestly, without her, the alteration person would have just done the minimum and my MOH stuck to her guns on a couple of alterations that really needed done.

I was going to go alone when FMIL literally got into my car and decided she was going with.

I'm bringing my mom because I like having a second opinion (besides myself and the seamstress) on how the dress fits. I think it's totally fine to go by yourself, though. If my mom couldn't make it, that was my plan.

I've gone to my fittings myself. Basically because we don't live by any family or close friends lol. But I probably wouldn't have asked anyone to come along with anyway.

I went alone when I went shopping, so I'm going to take my mom, best friend, grandmother, and probably FMIL to the first fitting.

My mom is the only one coming to my fitting. Everyone else came when I went shopping but they are done.

I went alone- took my shoes and my bra that I was wearing. It's not an event IMHO.

My mom came with me, but I didn't actually need her. I only needed to take in the bust a little though. The seamstress just did her thing.

ETA: I wasn't planning on her being there, but she decided to take the train down because we don't get a ton of time together being in other states, and it was nice to bounce some other wedding thoughts off her.

My mom and sisters (bridesmaids) live out of state, where I bought my dress. My dress will arrive in October and I'll be taking it to a local seamstress. My best friend came dress shopping with us as well but she loves a block away from me here and I'll bring her to my first fitting at least.

I went to my fittings solo except the final when the seamstress taught one of my BM the bustle

I'm going alone. I may bring someone to the last one, depending on if I need someone to be shown the bustle, but otherwise I don't see the need for someone to be there. My dress also needs minimal alterations.

I plan to go to my first fitting alone. I fear I've gained weight so if I don't look or feel my best trying it on I don't want anyone to see me.

Im thinking of taking my MOH. My mom is way to pushy so she will only see it at the wedding.

My mom came with me to my first fitting. She had not seen the dress yet so it was special.

I went alone to all my fittings. My bustle was so easy I could have done it myself and my dress fit pretty well prior to alterations so I didn't feel like I needed help.
