Which meal would you prefer

Michelle, on January 20, 2019 at 12:30 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 36

Hello, So my wedding will be on NYE 12/31/19!! Would you rather have a meal two meats, veggies, starch, salad and pasta or heavy apps? I want everyone to get full but I was thinking apps scream more of a NYE party. 50% of our guest are from out of state so we def want to make sure they get full. Can people really get full off of apps? will they be full now and hungry later? If we have cocktail hour and then apps again for dinner is that too many apps? What would you expect at a NYE wedding and What would you like at a NYE wedding?

also can I just do a glass of champagne or a signature drink at cocktail hour and then open the bar for dinner? Or will people be upset that the bar is not open for cocktail hour as well? And by bar I mean beer, wine and champagne(lots of champagne) only

I would have the bar open at cocktail hour. Do you plan on driving non alcoholic drinks during cocktail hour? Even though it would be NYE I would prefer a full meal. Will it be a plated meal or buffet? Serve apps during cocktail hour just make sure you have plenty for guests.

I think if your coctail hour is simple apps like a fruit and cheese tray and other things like that could work. And then for dinner/apps serve things like bacon wrapped scallops or chicken on a stick Maybe some soups or salads in cute martini glasses or something clever. That could work and differentiate dinner from cocktail hour. Cold apps first and hot meal type apps later. I would just make sure you have alot of them and make sure your guests know ita a cocktail style wedding so they dont expect a meal.

I would serve apps during cocktail hour and an actual meal during dinner time, regardless of when the wedding is, but that is my own opinion. As a guest, I would want that. At the end of the day, you choose what you want though. Smiley smile

I also prefer a meal. I would prefer whatever bar is being offered all evening be offered at cocktail hour. I wouldn’t last long if I put wine on top of a signature cocktail (but I’m over 40 so your mileage may vary).

Hi. We are having a NYE wedding too and will be serving a full dinner as well as late night apps. I think that food and drinks should be flowing all night! What time is your reception? Our reception will rel="nofollow" end around 2am so will be long enough where we must serve ample food and drinks. Also, we are having a full open bar the entire night. I think that if it’s an option for you (financially, etc) you should consider opening the full bar during cocktail hour.

Definitely a full meal. I don’t think appetizers are enough especially for a NYE wedding where I assume there would be heavier drinking.

I would have non alcoholic drinks and either a signature drink or champagne at cocktail hour. The only reason I am not going to do the full open bar is because only 50% (maybe a little less) of guest drink and I would still have to pay per person for the number of guest that we have. I can't see myself paying $4500 and my guest only drink $2000 or less in alcohol

Ours will end that time as well. I also thought about some late night snacks as well. But I thought after cocktail hour and a full dinner they would be stuffed! As far as the full bar goes not all of our guest drink but I still have to pay for the number of guest that I have. I can't fathom paying $4500 when my guest will drink $2000 or less in alcohol. I can spend $1500 just for beer, wine and champagne. That saves me $3000!!!!!!

Also what is your time line for wedding, cocktail hour and then dinner/reception. Late night snacks. What's on your menus

I’m always a fan of a full meal. Especially for NYE, people are going to be drinking heavily and they’ll need a substantial meal.

I was thinking the wedding would start at 8. Here people usually eat dinner between 5 and 6pm. But if we were serving apps, it would def be enough for everyone to have seconds and thirds of everything. I would never skimp on the food. But looks like the majority said a full meal so that's what we'll be having

Our details will be a bit different as we are having our wedding in Romania. The ceremony will be rel="nofollow" 7:00-7:30pm; cocktail hour rel="nofollow" 7:45-8:45pm (drinks and light apps); and dinner service between rel="nofollow" 9-9:15pm. This is a normal dinner time for the area and I think even acceptable for NYE in US. Music/party rel="nofollow" from 10pm-2am but then we continue on to another location (TBD - Romanians party until the sun comes up on NYE!). For food, the light apps will be traditional Romanian - basically fruits, veggies, deviled eggs and cold cuts. For dinner, guest choices will be fish, pork, and chicken (we have no guests that require meatless/vegan options, etc). During the party hours, we will offer heavier apps - traditional foods again but will incorporate some “American” options as well (pizza, sliders, scallops & bacon, mini meatballs, etc). We will also have popcorn machines. Also, we are saving champagne until the midnight toast. Looking forward to hearing your details!

I would do apps during cocktail hour and a fully dinner. We’re serving beer & wine only during cocktail hour and then open bar once dinner starts

I would prefer a full meal. I could get physically full from apps but psychologically I want to sit down to dinner.

I’m thinking of a NYE wedding too! Are you keeping your reception open until midnight?? I can’t decide if it’s be worth the extra money lol

I would prefer apps over meal. I think that's more NYE. I also thing you should do the open bar for the reception, just because it's new years ever and people like to drink.

My venue usually requires events to be over by 11pm but since it's NYE we paid the extra to extend it til 2am. You can't have a NYE party without partying past midnight. you need to extend until 1am at least

I would expect a NYE wedding to be hosted at higher standards than a typical wedding. It should have a cocktail hour with plenty of apps (hot and cold, passed and stations), full open bar (starting at cocktail hour and lasting through the end of the night), multi-course plated meal, and, depending on how late it goes, late night snacks. There should definitely be champagne available for the midnight toast. I would expect a band or a really outstanding DJ.
