Where to geaux? NOLA honeymoon booked!

E.V., on March 24, 2017 at 1:05 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 41

I have already been to the main countries my FH was interested in and he wanted us to both experience something new, so we chose a place in the US we have been wanting to see for a while- New Orleans! We are both major foodies that love history, drinking, and jazz so what better place to go? I don't know that it qualifies as a typical honeymoon (I usually think of beaches, resorts, or far destinations) but we are staying in a hotel that feels very "us"- shout out to the Henry Howard Hotel!- and already making a list of restaurants we want to try and romantic things we want to do. I am over-the-moon excited!

Those of you that are familiar with the area, where do you suggest we go for outings, food, romantic views, etc?

Is anyone else staying in the USA for their honeymoon? I'd love to hear the details!

My friend owns the Henry Howard House, and I used to manage Magnolia Mansion, which is next door! There's a great Italian restaurant on the bottom floor of the mansion now called Altamura. You should give it a try because it's a block away! Also walkable is Avenue Pub on St. Charles Avenue - great food and ALL THE BEER.

I've lived in New Orleans forever and have so many favorites. I'm about to fall asleep, but I'll revisit this tomorrow and give you some more recs. Enjoy your trip to our wonderful city! It's the best place ever.

Take the street car to eat at Brigstens: https://www.brigtsens.com/ It was our favorite meal of our trip last year. District doughnuts was good too.

We also did an air boar tour that was amazing: http://www.airboattours.com/

    And mardi gras world!

You are awesome, @LynZLeigh! I just added your recommendations to our list and look forward to hearing the rest. They sound right up our alley, so to speak. Thank you! Also, if my friend owned the Henry Howard House I think I would be trying to move in; I love it so much haha.

A NOLA honeymoon! What a cool idea. I go to New Orleans as often as possible and have always wanted to take a dinner jazz cruise. It sounds like it would be a super romantic honeymoon activity. Enjoy your honeymoon!

That will be so fun! FH and I live in Baton Rouge (about an hour away) but we do love New Orleans Smiley smile I recommend taking a tour of Mardi Gras World! It's where they store and make a lot of the mardi gras floats. Obviously we have been to mardi gras in the past, but taking the tour was incredibly cool and totally worth it!

God your venue is gorgeous! We attended a wedding in June a couple years ago and I cannot say enough how awesome the walking tours were (historical, cemetary, ghost etc.). The tour guides are all locals who have a love of their city and share that with their tour groups.

Great choice - I've been to New Orleans several times and have some recs for you:

Bacchanal - if you love food, drink, and jazz, you can't miss this! You walk in, and it's a cheese and wine store in the front. You purchase what you want and then walk into a huge backyard, grab a seat, and enjoy some live jazz. They also have a fabulous food menu! I can't recommend this place enough, makes for a wonderful evening.

Shaya - if you need a break from Southern food, this is the place...it's a Mediterranean/Israeli restaurant that won James Beard's "Best New Restaurant in U.S." award in recent years. I dream of going back there!

Parasol's - my fave po'boys in New Orleans. Located in the garden district, so perfect place for lunch and then walking around to stare at all the homes.

Cafe Du Monde - world famous beignets, touristy, but worth the stop.

    Enjoy!!!
