When to send save the dates

I have read multiple things about when to send save the dates (stds). I heard 9 months before and I've heard 4 months ahead. I am have a wedding in NY but most of my family is from Massachusetts.my FHs family all lives in NY so im just confused. My wedding is in May 2019 so when should I send my stds?

On these forums, I've read that you can typically send them out 6-8 months in advance.. So September-October of this year.

We sent ours out in early March and our wedding is early November (so 8 months). We did it on the early side because our wedding is a Monday of a holiday weekend so we wanted lots of time for people to request off work if needed.

I sent mine this week for my early November wedding. My planner wanted to send them within 6-8 months out from our date.

I would do 6-8 months. I sent mine about 8 months out because I have out of town family and wanted everyone to have enough time to prepare for making the trip if they chose to attend.

I sent mine 6 months before and it was an out of state wedding for everyone. It seemed to be enough time for everyone to plan. 6-8 months is a good guideline.

I would send yours out in October of this year so they don’t get lost in the madness of holiday cards!
