When is the right time to start looking at wedding dresses?

Martha, on April 4, 2017 at 1:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

So my wedding is 2 years away and I was wondering when is too soon to be looking at wedding dresses? I'm really pale in the winter time and my fiance and I are setting the date for summer time and I have a concern of what color dress will look good on me with a tan vs without a tan. My mother suggested that I could just try on dresses this summer if I wanted to test out different colors to see which color is best on me with a tan but my concern is maybe that's too early to be trying on dresses? I've read different blogs and have heard mixed reviews about if it's too early or not too early. Any advice that you all have for me is greatly appreciated!

Try on dress next summer 18'. You will have a tan and it will be safe to buy your dress then due to it being a year away. I bought mine in August 16; my wedding is may 17 so it was perfect timing.

Anything within a year is fine. Nothing you try on this summer will be popular or even around in the summer of 2019.

Way too soon. I started looking late (6 months) and still changed my mind after I purchased my first dress. What I ending up going with is almost completely different than anything I had pinned on Pinterest or envisioned as my wedding dress.

Another thing is if you purchase now, you will constantly see wedding dresses appear in ads and on your news feeds for the next two years. Constantly looking at beautiful gowns after you've already purchased yours will make you rethink your choice. If you find something you love now, just keep watching it and if you still love it in two years it will probably be much cheaper by then!

Hi Martha! The perfect dress shopping time is 9-12 months before your wedding. That way you are trying on dresses that you can order in time for your wedding, but you aren't leaving a ton of time to change your mind or develop dress regret!!

I would think you can start looking when ever you want, i see it as it gives you time to try dresses on and decide. You dont have to buy now.

I'd start about a year in advance. My date is July 2018 and I started last weekend.

I would say a year at the max. Tastes change, styles change, and you may end up with dress regret if you shop too soon.

I'd start actually shopping next year. So a year away. Right now you can always look to see what style you like but definitely don't buy anything

I would say at least a year to 9 months. I bought my dress last month which was only about 6 months from my wedding date and the boutique said it was to soon to order since the dresses were made to order. I ended up finding my perfect dress and buying the sample dress right off the rack. So if you don't want to do this I'd say at least 9 months to a year. They save alternations for 3-4 months before the date so no worry if your body changes
