What would be a good color for mothers of the bride-groom for this palette?

The Sealpups, on February 21, 2019 at 3:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
I’m planning to have a neural palette of cream, blush, beige, taupe, gold with different styles (all long gowns), one sequin, one plain, and one embroidered. I’m keeping this a surprise and have just told my bridesmaids/MOH and fiancé.

My MIL is asking what she should wear. Without spoiling the surprise, I just told her that the bridesmaids will be wearing blush but didn’t didn’t tell her what color she should wear. I was thinking she can wear beige? Do you think that would work? Most “mom” dresses look to “old” in my opinion. They work great with our grandmas but not with moms. Any color suggestion to our palette? Or would beige work? Thanks ladies!!

I would just tell her to wear what she wants without providing a color. If you want to keep your secret, then just offering "blush" as what your bridal party will be wearing is enough. The mom's don't have to match.

The moms don't really have to match, but often times do like guidelines for a "vibe" and level of formality. I told our moms "floor length and jewel tones". Maybe tell them the level of formality you want and then light neutrals or pastels? I would avoid restricting it too much.

Our mom's are wearing complimentary colors. It sounds like any earth tones will work with yours.

Moms definitely don't need to match the bridal party. Though many of them will want to coordinate - that's how ours were! (Mom & step mom even ended up wearing the same color without planning it. They were adorable lol)

Just tell her the color palette you are working with - dresses and decor, and let her pick out her dress based on that. Give a level of formality or length if you do want them to look somewhat cohesive, but other than that, moms can generally pick their own attire pretty well. Smiley smile And if you want to avoid the "matronly" look, don't have them shop in a bridal salon "mother of the bride" section. Set them free at Macy's or something - that's where mom, step mom and mother in law all got their dresses (and one pantsuit) for our wedding!

I am planning blush bridesmaids also and navy groomsmen. My mom is thinking a neutral champagne color or a shade of blue. But honestly, it’s what she feels most comfortable in. There won’t be many pictures of her with the bridal party...

First piece of advice is to avoid looking for mother of the bride/groom gowns and instead for for evening/cocktail dress--> makes a huge difference in selection. My mom found her dress at a local boutique for evening wear .

I agree with others that you don't need to provide a color, but if she asks for one a neutral or navy or even a darker pink could work very well.

I would just tell her to pick a color she's comfortable and looks good in that doesn't clash with blush. Anything pastel or neutral should look fine with that palette. I sent my mom the swatch of the bridemaids dresses and said find something you like that will look good next to this. I'm not going to limit color choices because she knows what colors she looks good in better than I do.
