What to do? Sorta rant/vent

TugBride, on December 12, 2017 at 10:24 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

My heart has always been set on having an elaborate formal wedding with beautiful decor and inviting everyone FH and I know. Of course our budget isn't that big so we opted for the nicest everything we could afford. We have no 'real' friends and our families are seriously flaky too. At this point we have struggled to come up with 35 people to invite. It sucks. As much as I want this bigger wedding I can't justify all the money and effort for people who almost definitely won't even show up. We could spend a fraction of our budget and just elope but it doesn't feel as satisfying. So I guess the question is do we go ahead and spend the money and be hurt again by the people we are closest to or not have our true dream wedding and save the money?

Side note won't be out any deposits if we cancel our current plans and elope instead.

Elope. You can do a big anniversary bash in a few years instead.

I agree. What makes a dream wedding will be the overall energy/feel of the night and the people who are having a wonderful time celebrating with you. If you don't think those people exist in your life, I'd say skip it and go on an epic honeymoon.

FH and I keep trying to give everyone chance after chance to try to act like they care and we are both just tired of constantly being used and stepped on. I mean I feel like I should wait maybe a little longer until our baby is here (January) and see if at least our families get it together but I don't want to wait too long before booking arrangements for the wedding?

Have your families n such always been this way (pre engagement)? If so...that isn't going to probably change Smiley sad

Personally, I'd rather elope or have a courthouse wedding with a few dearest...with a photographer n restaurant meal afterwards. Then bling up the ring n honeymoon, if you want.

A wedding is really only as good as the energy the people there are giving off. Elope. Have an amazing honeymoon. At least that's what I would do...

@ambrok to put it nicely neither FH or I have ever really had any connection to our families and we have tried desperately to build something with them for the sake of our child because we don't want her to feel as alone as we did as kids. At this point I am looking at places we could elope that are all inclusive and trying to figure out arrangements for our honeymoon family vaca since our 9ish month old will be with us too.

@futuremrsm I am starting to strongly see that as our best choice. I'm just not sure how to plan for a honeymoon with an infant since we don't know anyone safe enough to leave a baby with.

It's definitely hard to accept having the best relationship your family will allow vs what you envision but it gets easier than trying to push for one.

As for the babe...you have 9 months to seek out n test out some sitters...so that's good. You have a big yr coming up...marriage n baby Smiley smile

I'd elope, go to Disney with the baby for the honeymoon, and have a big wedding on your 5th or 10th anniversary as a wedding renewal.

I say go to one of those resort places I see all the time that have the babysitters who come to your room and watch your kids so you can have away time. And do the elopement there.

If you can't count on your family and friends to show up with you, treat yourselves nicely! I agree with a resort wedding and you can even do it at a resort that will have sitting services so you two have a little time together. Congrats on the baby and the up coming wedding!
