What did you do with your flowers?

Samantha, on December 17, 2017 at 8:03 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

I was at an absolutely gorgeous wedding last night where the couple spent a small fortune on flowers and then had a really hard time throwing them out after. What did you do, or do you plan to do, with your flowers after your wedding?

I'm going to dry my bouquet. Having a separate one for a toss. My bridesmaids are getting a very small bouquet perhaps 3-4 stems cross of blue hydrangeas and lavender roses I think not stuck on which flowers just yet. We can't do petals so we are gonna do a small flower ring for my flower girls hair and about the same size as the bridesmaid bouquet but micking my bouquet for her. I think I'm gonna find a way to do a small scrap book with them for each of the girls. I'm not doing floral decor unless I can do this which can then be brought inside as a centerpiece . I'm going to let people take them home but I know a lot of people donate them to nursing homes.

You can donate them through many florists or Repeat Roses, you could lt people take them all home, or (if you were me) you would instruct the venue to put them all in your car ;-)

People took ours home, but I work in nursing homes and the residents love when we get flower donations.

We gave some to our mothers and grandmothers! We donated the majority of them to our local Ronald McDonald House that one of our guests is the manager of. The families loved them!

Thanks! I'm all for donating if I can find an easy way to do it. I'll start looking for non profits near me.

I had silks, but even with fresh you could dry them and put them in a shadow box!

My bridesmaids took their bouquets. I gave my bouquet to my mom. My mom took our alter flowers and gave them to random family members. We had friends/family take the centerpieces.

My bouquet and his boutonniere we dried and put into shadow boxes, the centerpieces went home with guests or to the local nursing home (we had two or three that people took, and the rest went to the nursing home)

Something to think about if you are going to give or donate the flowers...most florists only rent the vases or containers so these will need to go back. You will need something, a bag, vase, bowl, etc to put the flowers in until them remain to the final place.

I dried my bouquet, we had our guests take centerpieces, and our DOC took anything that was left to donate to a nursing home the next day. She brought buckets so we were able to keep the vases and the flowers could still be donated. We bought vases instead of renting them.

The only flowers we had were for the bouquets and boutonnieres. The BM's took their bouquets home and I dried mine out and made a shadow box

We told people to take centerpieces. The big arrangements from the alter went home with my Mom and MIL. The rest got thrown away I guess. My bouquet was all dried out by the time we got back from our two week honeymoon so I just threw it in a vase. I'll probably throw it away eventually. They are just flowers.

I'm donating them to a nursing home, taking one to my grandparent's grave, and letting guests take home others

My venue would only donate them if I could get rid it the vase too. Well, some of our vases we didn't want to lose, so we ended up just taking them all. My mom did manage to give some of the flowers to guests, but most of them are still sitting in the back of my husband's truck. We have been too worn out today to do anything.

We donated most of our flower arrangements to the church, all BMs/GMs did whatever they wanted with their flowers, and I'm drying my bouquet/ H's boutineer.

People often donate them to hospitals and nursing homes. Smiley smile we plan on doing this with our centerpiece flowers if we end up going with real flowers.

We did silk so ours can be kept. I would donate to a local nursing home or if possible take them and hand them out make a day a little brighter
