What are some things you did NOT like at a wedding?

Felita, on May 11, 2017 at 10:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 75

Curious about some things you didn't like at a wedding you've attended. Mine was the lack of music it was literally ceremony, food, and we went home...Share your stories!

No seating plan whatsoever for 150 guests.

ETA I'm ashamed to admit it, because it happened in my own family....my aunt, who got married late in life, and was old enough to know better, had a potluck reception. EEK. They also opened up gifts AT the wedding. It was just a hot mess.

All of the weddings I've been to have had really crummy DJ's.. One of them really couldn't gauge the crowd and played dumb music, and the other one welcomed everyone to "The Rabinowitz bar mitzvah" -idk if that was a joke, but it wasn't funny. It looked like a grave mistake. Invest in the entertainment, it's well worth it!

ETA @futuremrs A BILL? at a DW? jesus......

Too many speeches! Not enough range of music variety (so many people were left sitting at they're table all night)

@FutureMrs: But did you pay the bill? Because I would have been like: "Excuse me?!?!? No."

Not being considerate of temperature - outside ceremony in 35 degrees is not ok!

Gross porta potties also not ok

I went to a family wedding with a suuuuuper long cocktail hour (following a 3-hour break between ceremony and reception) with zero snacks, it was at a restaurant so the table setup was really weird and we were in what was usually a private dining room so we couldn't see or hear anything (make sure you have enough space for your guests dangit), and even though we'd RSVPed with our menu choices the wait staff still came around to our tables and took our orders again so it took FOREVER to get our food. we left that one at 11 PM and they still hadn't even gotten to dessert.

8 dollar glasses of wine??? Holy shit I pay $8 for a bottle!! I would be out of that wedding so fast... That's fucking ridiculous. ETA: I'm not saying paying more for wine is ridiculous, that would be budget shaming. I'm saying that is a ridiculous price to burden your guests with, if you "can't afford" an open bar, you should at least stock affordable drink choices.

Last year I had to attend a wedding on a Friday between Christmas and New Years. The majority of the guests were coming from out of town and I found it to be a pretty big inconvenience to be travelling in winter (it didn't snow but it could have) during the holidays and on a Friday which I had to take off of work.

@A.Magill, I don't think they are! I get excited at any mention of a buffet.

We talk about these individual faux pas almost every day. Nothing really new here; cash bars, dry weddings, poor food, large gaps, rambling speeches, potlucks, friendors who are inept, no provisions for too hot/too cold/misting rainy weather/boring ceremonies (not usually my fault, but I can't always talk people out of six dusty readings and vows that are way too long), inconvenient parking and lateness on the part of any vendor or the bridal party.

FH was a groomsmen in this wedding and I love the couple that got married but, they had a backyard wedding and only had reserved seating for their families for the reception and then maybe 2 other tables. Which meant everyone else had to stand the entire time or try to beat someone else to a seat.

Bad music. too much time/emphasis on wedding "formalities"-- i.e. speeches, formal dances, slideshows, bouquet toss-- keep it short, i want to get to the dancing!
