Wedding Insurance Experiences

Ashley, on November 24, 2017 at 12:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

I have looked through posts that recommend wedding insurance providers... USAA, WedSure, WedSafe.

Does anyone have experience with a provider where you actually had to file a claim? I'm weary about buying through on online provider in fear of how difficult it would actually be to collect the insurance money if something actually occurred.

I think I remember a post here a few months ago of someone whose venue was messed up from the hurricanes. WedSafe insurance paid out and I believe they said it wasn't too difficult. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though, but that's what I remember. It could have been in another website's forum. I also remember a post reminding everyone that ring insurance was important too, because the prongs could loosen over time and jewels could fall out.

For us, our venue required liability insurance and optional cancellation insurance. We decided to go with it because we're in Florida and having a beachside wedding, because we could get some coverage if there was an injury or death in the family (not unlikely in our case), and because I'm a bit of a nervous person to begin with. Plus in the grand scheme of things, it wasn't expensive at all compared to what we're spending on our wedding.

I haven't purchased yet (and no claims) but, I'm planning to add it on through my home insurance. Have you checked this route? The provider for your home or apartment insurance may be able to offer you something.

If not I'd recommend checking out the different companies you named on the Better Business Bureau to see if they have a good rating.

I think you just flat flat out ask the person you're talking to about the ins and outs of the policy. Hopefully other couples here will weigh in on their experiences.

Don't bother with BBB; there was a huge story about how unreliable they are.

I think first you need to know what policy covers. Some people say they have coverage through their home owners, but I think that generally that would only cover liability. If you want coverage in case a vendor goes out of business, you need a specialized policy.

I'm not going to lie, i have never heard of wedding insurance until i joined WW. I never knew anyone to have gotten it, advised it or mentioned it. I live in southern Ohio so in a sense floods, and major disasters aren't much of a concern here for us. So i never even considered it before.

We're going with Wedsafe. They were the cheapest at $278 for liability and postponement insurance. We checked out USAA since FH has accounts with them and they were double the price.

We went with Websafe. I read the reviews on here about people who had to use it and it seemed reasonable, just needed to keep your paperwork. I did not have to use it.
