Wedding first dance song (an old fave or “your song”)

I would go with a song that means something TO YOU for your first dance - because it's YOURS, not your guests'.

However, if that other song is important (but holds no significance to you personally), make it a point to play it during the night and have the DJ somehow make it a "big deal" like a dedication to long-term couples, shoutout to parents/grandparents, etc.

We are using "I Hate Love Songs" by Kelsea Ballerini. It's not your typical first dance song, but it suits us perfectly...specifically the "We were drunk when we met so we don't know our anniversary, woops" lol

Have you asked him why he doesn't want to celebrate YOUR moment with a song that means something TO YOU? Is there some kind of reasoning behind it? Maybe if there's a more concrete reason it will make more sense!

I absolutely LOVE Yours & In Case You Didn’t Know - great choices by you. Our song isn’t very well known, which I’m happy about. We chose it because of the lyrics and their significance to us/our relationship. I’d say that’s more important than how well known the song is. It’s YOUR moment/dance.
I also agree with Melissa, you can compromise and play that song later in the evening. Could make for a good anniversary dance, assuming you are/would want to have one! But regardless can be a great song at any point if he really wants it.

We definitely chose to dance to our song - and we still do every time it plays and we are able - but you two need to come to an agreement about what you want to do.

For what it's worth, I don't think it matters if anyone else knows the song. I didn't know my brother and sister-in-law's song and the moment was just as special, because it wasn't about me - it was about them.

For someone who doesn’t want too much say on the wedding planning, he has a lot to say. I kinda want to give this choice to him, so he can feel included but I really want a song that has meaning to US.

I would choose something meaningful. We are dancing to "Danny's Song" by Loggins and Messina.

I couldn’t care less if a single guest knows our first dance song.

My FH and I couldn’t agree on a song at first... I wanted “From the Ground Up” by Dan and Shea and he wanted “Perfect” by Ed Sheehan. We decided to find a song we both loved and meant something to us. After listening to many songs and going back and forth, we both fell in love with “How Long will I love you” by Ellie Goulding. I would definitely pick something that has more meaning.. I think if you dance to a song that is special, you will enjoy it more and the happiness and joy will show up in your pictures :-)

Thank you for your input. I think i just need to emphasize to him that the first dance is about US not everyone else. Who cares if they don’t know!!! I already picked the song I’m walking to. My Dear by Kina Grannis because that’s a song I played for him when i surprised him for our first Valentines day together.

In case you didn't know is ours! Well part of it..we're doing a mashup of a song from 1985 when we first dated and that. I think the song should be meaningful to the two of you, the other song can be played too, but later

Our guests won't know probably 95% of our music. Each song means something to us, and that's all that matters.

UPDATE: I talked to him last night and explained to him that the first dance should be about US, and who cares if no one knows our song. I think, with you’re ladies’ help, I was able to persuade him into seeing it my way! 😉 31 days to go!!!
