Wedding Dress Fear Come True?

Christie, on August 29, 2018 at 9:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
I bought my dress a few months ago at a sample sale. It fit perfectly - a little snug - but it fit. I have my first appointment with a seamstthis Friday and I went to try it on and I can’t get it to zip all the way! I’m about 2-3 inches short. Are most people able to zip their dress on their own? It is pretty big and heavy so I’m wondering if someone helping me will do the trick or if it really doesn’t fit now. Smiley sad Thoughts? Words of encouragement? Feeling bad about myself right now (I have already been feeling self conscious about my weight).

Most people need AT LEAST one other person to zip their dress. Don’t fret! It is probably fine.

I say this with experience as in my musical theatre days there would be two of us zipping up people’s dresses with costume changes. 😊

Lol. My dress is huge on me up top, but I cant zip it myself. I haven't done any alterations yet. I wouldn't worry until you have someone helping you who cant zip it.

I second other girls who commented!!! But if you do feel self concious because you know you gained weight it could be that extra kick in the butt to do something about!!! Either way you will be fine!!! Smiley smile

Daughter's dress fits perfectly, but there is no way she could close it on her own -- absolutely impossible. The waist has to hit at the exactly right spot for it to close. She has to have the straps off her shoulders, and then only put them on once the zipper is up and the hooks are fastened.... Once you get it right, it is perfect, but it's at least a two-woman job to get her into that sucker! Smiley winking We've been joking that there aren't going to be any of those "oh, look as MOB easily zips up bride's dress for the photographer" pictures!

I can't zip mine on my own. I really need to have someone come over in the next few weeks to help me try it on again to make sure it fits still. Like you I bought the sample dress and it fit perfectly in February. I almost got it to zip but then I had that OMG what if I can't unzip it myself and he comes home and I'm in tears in my dress that's stuck on me.

When I was trying on dresses, there were a couple that couldn't get zipped all the way. The consultant told me to push my elbows into my side while she zipped and for some reason that helped. You might just need someone to help you.

My dress originally fit like a glove and I couldn't zip it myself- mine's pretty heavy, too. I pick up my dress from alterations tomorrow and I know I've gained weight so I'm really not looking forward to the self-shame I'll be feeling. I added a corset back so it'll fit anyway but ugh.
