Wedding Cake Specialists v. Fave Bakery?

pianoNYK, on January 23, 2009 at 9:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

What's better, assuming the bakery (in this case, either Cafe Besalu or Bakery Nouveau in Seattle) has plenty of experience with wedding cakes? Just wondering, since I had been planning on checking out the aforementioned two super-popular bakeries, but when I looked online at various wedding sites, they all recommend cake-catering places rather than bakeries... Thanks!

Mine is coming from a bakery & i think they tend to run less expensive as well from my point of view as a guest all id really care about is taste which im sure a bakery would do just as good as a cake specialist

A tip for going to either one, find out how many weddings they make cakes for per day. Make sure they won't be making someone else's cake the same day as your's. My sister went with a bakery that our family had done business with for years called Ladycakes in Marblehead, Massachusetts, and they closed down their shop the day of her wedding since they had 2 Wedding Cakes to make. It's better if they only do one per day to prevent mixups. My sister got the wrong cake for her wedding. It was delicious, but it was lemon cake with raspberries in it, when her cake was supposed to be Red Velvet with Cream Cheese frosting. She found this out as she was cutting her cake and didn't say anything until the day after her wedding. It was too late to do anything about it at her wedding.

Wherever you choose just make an appointment for a tasting! Bakeries have been making cakes long before wedding cake specialists became popular. Also when you go for your appointment ask to see their portfolio of previous wedding cakes they have done, then you'll know if your vision is something they can handle. Good luck.

Taste is primary, looks of course, and then their ability to get it to you in one piece without costing an arm & a leg.

Renaissance, Mike's Amazing (for looks, anyway, I didn't personally like the cake), Sweets & Savouries (yum!), Macrina is supposed to be fab, too.
