Videography.. Worth the expense?

Megan, on March 6, 2017 at 2:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

I am wondering if hiring a videographer for the day is worth the expense. I have read online that not hiring a videographer is one of the top things brides regret.. Is this true? Or is it just another unneeded expense?

I think there are other posts on this topic but I think it is worth it. My photographer brought 2 assistants with her and was an absolute dream. That being said, the videographer still captured moments the photographers weren't there for. That alone justified the cost.

We are using our GoPro for the ceremony and at randoms times during the reception. Videographer for us is out of budget...

My friends that got married in the last 2 years, like have the video and the pictures. I guess, it depends on what your budget is

I for sure want one and will probably stash a GoPro somewhere too. My best friend got married 2 years ago and they love all the footage from their wedding day.

We got our videographer off thumbtack and he is amazing to work with and let us set our own budget.

We're going with a videographer for a number of reasons. I want to literally be able to replay my day anytime I want, and if we ever decide to have kids its something I'd want to be able to share with them. Photography is great, but it doesn't capture everything.

Also, ask your videographers what their package options are. I know the one we went with offers an inexpensive "highlight reel" option that condenses your big day into 15 - 30 minutes. I've seen this popping up more and more as an option, so I wouldn't be surprised if its offered in your area.

Personal taste. Hire a VERY good one, or skip it is my advice. Cheap / inexperienced ones lack the wow factor and get in the way.

Yes. Yes. I say start shopping asking and see where you could cut costs, if it's what you want. I wanted one and we booked it immediately after our venue & photographer.

Yes I think they add an interesting overview of the event and would generally say they are worth it. However, make sure you like the one you hires work online. A friend posted her wedding video on fb today (done by a professional) and I thought it was terrible and got bored while watching it. There are many different styles so try to find one you like!

I would say it's worth it if you can find someone great within your budget. I get teary watching strangers' weddings videos so I can only imagine how I'll feel when I see our own.

It isn't in our budget to hire someone very good so we're skipping it.

I really wish I could afford it. When I got promoted at work in November I decided to blow my photography budget and got a fantastic photographer. FH is supportive of my choice, especially after we experienced a horrible engagement shoot. My dream photographer did our second shoot and he's totally on board after meeting and working with her and then seeing our shoot results.

FH has a co-worker that does more documentary style videography and we're talking with him to see if he'd be willing to do anything for us. Since our budget doesn't allow for a wedding videographer at this point we feel anything would be better than nothing.
