Vendors/caterers please. How do you know when you have 2 much food at your reception?

The reason I ask is when my nephew got married they decided to "save money" by doing the food themselves. They ran out of food about half way through the crowd. It's a horror of mine now. So I have 5 passed hors d'ourves (spelling?), one station, than a duet for diner with a starch and veggie, and 3 desserts (1 as the cake). My bar is wine, beer and Coke only. My wedding planner says to cut back, but the near riot that took place is in my head and it will not back out. Any suggestions vendors and anyone else out there?? I mean besides psychiatric help anyways.

Your caterer will know how much to bring, or are you doing this yourself? If you are using a caterer and you end up with extra food, make sure you are allowed to take any leftovers home with you. We had to bring in treys/ice chests to bring home extra food.

I think that sounds like enough food, and if you are worrying about it, then dont cut back on food. you wanna make sure theres nothing your gonna have to worry about for the wedding! rather have too much food than not enough. you can always take the rest home, or donate it to a local homeless shelter or soup kitchen.

Caterer's tend to not let you keep any left over food. It has to do with the health and food board, not them. From experience, a sit down dinner or lunch is much easier to DIY, and it comes out being cheaper in the end. Just plan on 20% more food than the number of guests coming. Just in case, there is a few people who eat more or that don't RSVP and show up.

Hopefully this helps a little bit. Good Luck
