Ok, my fh and i are going to be getting married in 2 days!!!!!! and we will be flying the next day to hour honeymoon. we were wondering, how much should we tip the people at the airport? like the bag guy for example. the person who gets us our rental car whenever we meet our destination, the guy at the hotel. we werent sure on how much to tip him or her or how much to take with us for that stuff. to me i t hink its stupid to tip i mean, my gosh we are already paying enough money for this stuff so y should they get more money. idk

    1. Airport tip- Only tip if you have a skycap take your bags. Usually $1 a bag. If I have 2 bags *I* give $5. They are more likly to "take care" of you bag well. Tell them you are on you honeymoon, tip well and ask if they will put priority tags on your bag. Less waiting for them at destination.

    2. Rental car guy- If its the guy at the counter, nothing. If its the person checking you in, taking your information and giving you keys, nothing. If you get on a bus to take you to the car, tip the driver of the bus $2-$5 if your bags are heavy.

    3. Bellhop at hotel- $1 a bag. If its 3 bags give him $5.

    4. Maid- $10-20 for the whole week depending on how good they were and if they give you personal service

The thing is you are on your honeymoon. If you tip well, and they KNOW you are on your honeymoon they will treat you well.

I travel a great deal for work and live in NYC so I thik I have a good understanding of tipingSmiley smile Let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Note that if you are going to an all-inclusive resort, many times gratuity is included and you are actually expected NOT to tip.

I agree with the other posters. If it's all-inclusive, there's usually not a need to tip, but you can if you recieve outstanding service. For bags at the airport only a dollar a bag if someone is carrying them for you (skycap, rental car shuttle, etc). If it's not an all-inclusive resort, follow what the first post said for tipping at the hotel.

    Hi steeler!

When you go to the airport you have 2 different ways to check in for the flight.

Instead of going inside you can go right to the skycap, or rather, the guy who can check you in OUSIDE the terminal. They do the same thing the people inside do, except you dont have to drag the bags in, wait on line, etc.

Its curbside checkin, and the guys are called skycaps Smiley smile

Keep in mind there can be a line with the skycaps, and you SHOULD tip them. But if its a nice day, why schlep all your bags inside when you can wait online outside?

    this help?

Ok i am a ditz and still confused lol! there shouldnt be a line (hopfully) inside our flight leaves at 630 am. so need to be there at 4 and luckily the place is only ten min away the hotel i mean. i called the airline little bit ago and they said that you can i guess check in 24 hours before leaving (ya who has time to do that hello wedding day!) or check in at the airport (even though went through a travel agency and wasnt sure if you still needed to check in). so its like right outside the airport terminal? when did they start the skycap? whenever last time went flying (this is my second time flying) i think when was that like in i think 2004 (whenever steelers played jets in afc cmap game) anyway i dont remember doing the skycap i think we just checked in at the airport or a guy helped us its been long time ago.......

If you are getting to the airport at 4-6am there will not be a line.

BUT! When you come home there might be. Just go inside and dont worry. Skycap's have been around forever. Its just a different way of checking in at the airport, so dont worry about it.

Now. You can go online the night before and print out your boarding passes right fro your computer. *IF* you do this you only need to check your bags at the airport and not check in. There usually is a separate line at the airport for people only checking bags in. Again, you are getting to the airport so early its not a problem. I DO suggest you go to a person to check in and mention its your honeymoon. SOMETIMES, if they have room, they MAY bump you up to first class.

I just have one quick thing about all inclusive. I used to work at an expensive hotel and when they started charging for gratuity I NEVER got a tip. You know where the tips go? To the boss or the chamber maids (mostly to the boos once in a great while it'd go to the chambermaid). I was a lobbymaid at night so I did room calls and stuff like that and used to get NOTHING! So for me please if you ask for room service, pillows, cib, extra blanket, towel, whatever please give a tip no matter if you already paid the gratuity. I would remember the rooms that tipped and the second they called before they were off the phone I was at the door with there stuff and I would give a little extra then we were required to give. I used to get between a dollar and $3 sometimes more. It doesn't have to be a lot just a little something. Believe it or not even when I got a dollar for a tip I NEVER thought how cheap, I really appreciated it.
