They actually asked

Fwbride, on March 14, 2019 at 11:30 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 11
So my family has a home in Whitefish, Montana up on Big mountain. We go there about twice a year for skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. Well, my cousin lived there for a bit when he was going to college and he trashed the place, so now we aren’t allowed to invite friends out there and we have to be married to go there with an SO.

My fiancé and I were out to dinner with some friends of ours and they actually asked us if they could use the house for their honeymoon. First of all, is it just me or is it kind of rude to flat out ask someone to use their family home for a trip, especially a honeymoon? Anyway my Fiancé quickly say “yes! We’ll have to ask her parents but I’m sure they’ll be fine with that.” Ummm No they won’t. They will absolutely say no. So now I’m in such a weird place where I have to tell them it’s not going to work out, but I know they are going to be like “oh, your parents said no?” I don’t want to ask my parents cause last time I asked about going to the home in Naples they were really taken aback that I had the nerve to ask😳 ughhh

I'd just talk to them and explain how it was trashed in the past so your parents are no longer letting people use the facilities.

I would explain what you said here. You'd like for them to be able to stay there but you know it won't be a possible. It wasn't really cool of them to put you on the spot, but they likely had no ill intentions.

I think it's super rude. I would just be honest with them about what happened, and your parents new rules. Or even lie and say someone else will be there that weekend.

Exactly what everyone else said, just be honest about the situation. Your parents don’t allow anyone to use their house since it has been trashed by visitors in the past. I’m sure they’ll understand!

    Yes, it is rude.

I'd either just tell them, sorry no, my parents are not okay with this.

Or be honest and tell them the truth. You parents aren't comfortable with having guests.

If they push it, just hold your ground. They will have to find other plans.

    Good luck!

I agree with this. Just be honest and let them down gently. I am sure they will understand.

That is awkward. My first thought was to tell a little white lie that it's being used that weekend, but that still implies they may be able to go there in the future, so I think your best bet may be the truth here as awkward as it may be Smiley sad

I think that is incredibly rude of them to ask! I would just be honest about the new policy....and remind your guy of it too!

FH shouldn't have opened his mouth and suggested it would be okay when it doesn't even belong to him. HE needs to be the one to call this couple and explain the situation. He also owes you an apology.
