I saw this article maybe a couple weeks ago or something and thought it was strange.

My next thought may not be worded the best, but here goes: Maybe those that are spending less is because that's all they can afford and that's absolutely fine, but maybe those people are 'closer' or don't need much in life and are 'living on love'. The only reason I say this is because FH brother (just out of college, no real job, his g/f and him living with his parents) were getting engaged. FH talked to him told him really think about it (we think his mother was pushing him to it) he didn't have any money to spend and his mother kept saying 'they will live on love'. Well his parents gave him a ring from the family, he proposed, 4 days later it was off and they aren't together anymore. <---I get that was a terrible example because it didn't work out, but some people truly believe they don't need more than what they need to get by. The ring isn't about how much is spent on it, but I wanted a nice ring. Part of why FH waited until we were together for 6 years was so we were a little older, he had all of his student loans paid off and could just take what he wanted to spend and go buy it. Sure I would have loved to be engaged a couple years ago to him, but I'm happy to have waited and get a ring that I really love and be able to pay for the wedding I want.
