Sliced cake

Marina, on June 20, 2017 at 2:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

Having worked in the catering business I have thrown away so much sliced cake making me believe that sliced wedding cake is a waste. Would i be saving any money by not serving it? FH doesn't even want to discuss an alternative ( meaning cutting a small cake and then providing cupcakes along with dessert table). Am I just not seeing the bigger picture?

We r having a cupcake cake for that reason. Too much waste with cake slices. We will still have a small cake for cake cutting.

Joe was adamant about cake--and lots of it.

So I ordered almost double the normal amount and we only took a little home--and it was so good.

I know what you mean about the styrofoam tasting ones with the Crisco frosting. My mom used to call it "decorations" instead of cake Smiley smile

I think there should be some type of dessert! If you don't want to do sliced cake it could be something else!

I am going to have a dessert tabke with mini sweets and boxes for people to take some home, but the whole thing of also serving sliced cake is really getting to me. Especially since most places charge you a cake cutting fee of $3-5 per person

We had ours sliced and boxed so guests could take it with them. Worked out great!

I think your going to have a lot of leftovers no matter what you do.

Either ask the venue not to cut it all right away, or put the leftovers out on a table so that people can take seconds.

I'm team cupcake for that reason. I considered to-go boxes, but opted for cupcakes so I wouldn't have to pay the cutting fee. I'm getting a much higher quality dessert for my budget this way.

I'm doing cupcakes and a small cake for us plus a dessert table. Sometimes people are to busy to enjoy cake, so I'm having some type of bags or boxes for people to take treats to go!

I think I prefer cupcakes to small cake + cupcakes. I don't want to see the option of having cake and not be able to avail myself of that option (due to quality limits etc). Cupcakes all around is fair.

The tradition in western PA is a cookie table. In an exception to the friendor ban, the extended family provides dozens on dozens of cookies, almost like a holiday cookie exchange. The REAL traditional way is that guests show up with Tupperware planning to take home extra cookies. I've never seen that happen in the modern day, but I've seen the couple provide cute take home boxes so guests can take extra cookies.

I am having cupcakes and a small cake for cutting. I will also have cupcake takeout containers for those who wish to take the leftovers home.

We are having sheet cakes that will be cut into decent size pieces and a small cake for us to cut. I hated taking the cupcakes out of the container for my sister's wedding and didn't want to mess with it.

We did cake pops. And had a TON left over. I think no matter what you'll have leftovers.

I like cupcakes better personally. You could theoretically send cake slices home with guests if you felt like that would work...Isn't that what the grooms cake used to be for in ye olden days?
