Searching for tips

tiffany, on April 28, 2012 at 11:03 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6

My theme is an indoor garden wedding. Being that I live in Houston, there is no telling how the weather would be so I do not want to have it outside. So my plan is to bring the outside inside if that makes any since. Maybe I'm reaching for too much but I wanted to know if anyone could give any input on how to create this floral arch/canopy/chuppah type thingy? I have received quotes but I would rather save some money and DIY it.

It sort of looks like it's hanging by itself...if that's the case, I would assume you could use a hula hoop as structure (so it's circular) and then build from there. Maybe run floral wire up to a chain in the center (to hand from the ceiling) and then layer the vines/flowers until you're happy with the look of it. If it's NOT a free hanging piece, you could take a typical arch and just add more flowers and vines to the top middle.

I came accross a website that kinda of gave me some instructions on using bamboo or arched pvc pipe to make the top part and post for the legs.

I have no idea how to do it, but 2nd Bride made their chuppah and I know she has instructions somewhere.

If you DIY, how will you transport it?

So I just saw this pic on pinterest and it made me think of this post... maybe you could cover an arch with flower garland/leis?

Tiffany, what kind of $ do you want to spend? The reason I'm asking is that this type of DIY is gonna be very pricey - no matter what. I'd estimate something like that to land minimally around 600 bucks easy. And I'm a bargain hunting mama like no other. :-)

Assuming that you're cool with spending that kind of money, the frame is an arbor frame that you can pick up at Walmart - you will need two of them and will need to use dow rods to connect them together at your desired width. From there it's flowers & flower garland strands & some battery operated lights. Lots & lots of them, which is where the big money is going to come in... Even cheapy flower garlands run about $5-9 a piece - you'll need 200 or more, then the flowers - and depending on what you want could be 50 cents a piece or $3 each - and you'll need 300-400.

As Mrs. S pointed out - please think about transporting to & from and set up.
