Sash and veil help!

Alison , on August 22, 2018 at 8:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Hi all! So, I’ve lost about 20 lbs since I got engaged, and the dress I bought falls straight down from the bust, which means I can’t see the results of my weight loss (lame) so, I thought I’d give a sash/belt a shot to show my new waist a bit more. I’m having a lot of trouble finding one that matches the beading on the neck line of my dress though. I found one that looks perfect, but it’s a flower girl sash and honestly way out of my price range. All sashes that I look at online are coated in rhinestones which will NOT look good at all. Anybody have any thoughts on this whole sash situation? Maybe it wouldn’t even look good on the type of dress,. Ya know?

Secondly, I can’t get my great-aunts voice out of my head saying “You have to have a long veil if you don’t want to look fat” (wonderful old gal, ain’t she?) So I was also hoping I could get your thoughts on that as well. Wedding is at a yacht club, chic but not overly fancy at all. Attached are pictures of the expensive sash I found, and me in my dress with a sample veil that David’s threw on just for fun.

Thank you!

I would go without a sash to be honest! If you did use one the extra material in the front of your dress by your bust will gather weird and hang funny under the belt and make you look bigger in the stomach. Just my opinion but I think you look gorgeous without it!

Also the long veil theory actually does help alot! They seem to elongate your figure giving the illusion of the tall and skinny look. Short veils pull your eyes to the trim/beading and the shorter ones normally have the beading and design at the bottom which lay in your waist area. Its your preferences tho if you love the short go with the short! Mine is a short style with beading and lace details and I'm in love with it cause it matches my dress to the T. Good luck on your decision tho!

With that dress I’d skip the sash. I agree with a PP, it’s me the front fabric hang funny.
I have no opinion on the veil-I hate them.

Hi Alison! I love that dress, the beading on the neckline is so pretty! I think it looks great without the sash, I think it may cause the fabric to hang funny if there were a sash! As for the veil, that is totally up to you! I love the one you are wearing in the photo, but if you end up going with a long one I think that'll look gorgeous, too!!

20 lbs is a huge accomplishment and they will definitely notice. I do agree no sash but a veil would look nice

Wow 20 lbs, that's great. Everyone will notice the weight loss, as it's never just around the waist. I think your dress is beautiful as it is and I wouldn't add anything to it. I think it would change the way the dress falls on you. Try just putting a normal belt around it to see what is does to the way the material falls, before you pay out for a sash.

    ps... you've got great hair

I'm with all the other ladies. No sash. It will make the dress look weird. I love long veils just because they are so elegant!
