RSVP......where are they!!!!

Debbie, on July 19, 2008 at 1:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

Hello, was just wondering how to handle and take in all the RSVPs not responding. It's so frusturating to mail out 100 invitations and barely get any RSVPs back. I don't understand the card is already stamped and addressed, and they can RSVP on the website too! I'm renting chair covers, and would be able to save a ton if I knew how many weren't planning on coming, inluding food. What to do, still have a week to go before the RSVPs were requested to do back, am I freakin out too early! Does anyone have advice on this or know how to handle this situation. Thanks

What a lot of people have done (and what I'll probably end up doing myself) is taking the list of people who haven't responded by the deadline and dividing it up amongst your bridesmaids or whoever is helping with your planning and calling them to get a response. just tell them the situation about the seat covers and everything and they should tell you. it shouldn't be a problem to get a response out of them that way. good luck!

Do you happen to have all their contact numbers? Set up a phone brigade with your bridesmaids and call the errant RSVPs. You might want to emphasize the fact that when they send in their response that they should show up. My friend had 3 or 4 empty tables at her reception because guests ditched the reception at the last minute.

    Good luck with your wedding!

This is a very common problem with todays brides. I suggest to our brides to contact each person on the guest list that has not responded by the due date. Perhaps the RSVP was misplaced or other reasons for time slipping away.

Sadly guest often do not understand how important this is- should just 10 guest not RSVP could cost a couple a $1000.00 or more- example-(Food, bar, table, linens and napkins for table, chair covers, sashes for chairs, favors for couples, programs, centerpiece for table and Cake or cakes ) - all these items are based on number of guest attending- each vendor must prepare for that number even if all guest do not attend.

Debbie - I'm so sorry! My advice is to wait until the day they are due and then use that count. RSVPs are there for a reason. It is quite rude for people to not respond. Hopefully you'll get them all in within the next week. Good luck!

I agree that you should wait at least until the day they are due!!! Then I think you and your bridesmaids should call and let your guests know that you are getting a final head count and would like to know if they were planning on attending or not!!!! Best of luck and if you need any last minute help I am only a phone call away!!!

Wait til the due date and then start making the phone calls. Its totally rude not to RSVP...and people will realize that when you have to call them to find out

    Debbie,

Don't worry yet! Ask your family and bridesmaids to gently spread the word that RSVPs are soon due. Do you have a wedding planner? If you do, you are in luck! This is one of your planner's tasks to do: following up with those guests who havent' RSVP'd. If you do not have a planner, enlist the help of your family and bridesmaids and make some phone calls. If you have them spreading the word already, wait for the RSVP date to start making calls.

    Good luck and warmest wishes!

Don't worry Debbie, just like in the movie Field of Dreams they will come. I have seen this happen many of times. But you can breath a sigh of relief by having your maid of honor make some calls for you. You are surrounded by people that want to help you. Don't forget on your special day do not stress out! You will end up missing your own wedding. Good luck.

    Sincerely,

    Chris

Have family members contact the family members that haven't responded to remind them. Time gets away from people..they lay it aside and forget. For the rest, have your bridesmaids make reminder phone calls now, reminding everyone of the due date and that you must have a final headcount. Emphasize the importance of showing up if they do RSVP. I understand your anxiety. I too am on a strict budget and I don't have the time or the money for flaky guests.

    Debbie,

I'm curious how this turned out for you. We still have a couple weeks left until the RVSP date, but I'm getting a little nervous with how many we still have left to respond. I was planning to wait until closer to the RSVP date to have our families help us start contacting people, but I wondered how it ended up for you. Did a lot of people show up that didn't RSVP? Or were you able to get a pretty accurate number after sending out emails/phone calls?

    Thanks and congratulations!!

Sorry it took me so long to answer you Susie S. just received power 2 weeks after Hurricane Ike has passed, but I did make phone calls and sent out emails. The wedding was great, but even many people that did say yes, didn't show. I think calling kind of put them on the spot and they didn't want to be rude so they said yes anyways, many did respond to the email I sent out though, I would suggest emails, its easier for them to say no through an email than on the phone, and you may get more of an accurate number. We still had a great turnout but could of saved a lot of money on linens. Many don't realize the stress and cost of putting on a wedding and reception, and how important it is to try to get an accurate guest count. And if you are so anal like I am about details, such as linens and chaircovers and decor and such you just have to accept the fact that its better to have too much than too little. Good luck to you sweety. Congratulations!!
