RSVP Issues - Venting

MEGAN, on September 13, 2016 at 10:15 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

18 days to go. Final numbers due to venue this week.

We aren't having a reception. We are having a small dinner. We are inviting only very close friends and very close family and have had to leave off many people that we would have loved to be there. It is a sit down dinner with a very carefully chosen seating chart. I've put a ton of time and effort into this.

It is a week past the RSVP date. I have called everyone on the list that did not RSVP (1/3rd!). I have 7 maybes. Waiting on work/school schedules, fine I get it. There is a high likelihood that they will get someone to cover. I don't mind it. However "my kid might have soccer practice but we won't know until the day of" isn't okay in my book. They want me to put them down as a yes and pay $75 per plate for them to maybe not show because they don't want someone else to drive their 13 year old to soccer (they have a babysitter for the other two kids).

Anyone else having these issues? Regretting their invites?

It is endlessly surprising how bad everyone is at RSVPing! It's so easy, I don't know why people don't get it!

Our RSVP due date was the 8th and we've just started following up with non-responders. My mom just told me one of her friends is a "maybe" and will let us know by Saturday....that's fine and my numbers aren't due to the caterer until 3 days before the wedding, but I sent this grown adult a Save The Date in March, and if they want to come to the wedding they need to buy a plane flight and reserve a hotel. How have they possibly not have figured this out by now? I'm stumped.

Yikes thats ridiculous!! weddings are usually given with enough advance notice for people to know if they need to get time off! hope you can find things out soon!

Yeah those kind of replies will basically cause me to tell them "we won't be placing a prepaid seat for a last minute decision, we unfortunately will have to miss your presence that day" or some bullshit that sounds nicer.

Like if you are choosing soccer practice over the wedding, then please just say NO and let me move on. Therefore, I will say NO for you and just tell you lol.

We invited 194 people and our deadline for RSVP's was yesterday. We are missing 114. I don't understand, I've always responded on time when invited to an event, its not difficult people!!

Right there with you, our deadline was the 9th to RSVP and we had to track down more than 100 people from our 175 person guest list. Might I also mention the card had their names pre-written on them with check boxes for "will attend" and "regretfully declines", and pre-stamped. We also had the online RSVP option. I don't know how we could've made it any easier on them.

To make matters worse, we had several who didn't respond to either a phone call/voicemail or a Facebook message when we tried to follow up. One of which posted something to the effect of "I hate ignorant and selfish people." Yea...me too! LOL! By the end of the day, if the 28 people on that list haven't gotten back to us, they're being marked as no's. Our coordinator's cool with this and said she'll have chairs/tables added as necessary and will adjust billing afterwards. So not worth stressing over!

It might be worth noting that I sent Save the Dates in November of last year and invites the first week of August.

I'm currently in this boat as well. My issue is not only are final numbers due this Saturday but so is everything else, so place cards and seating chart. So I really need the numbers by Saturday, but I have to have them at least a day before so I can finalize my seating chart and sort my place cards by table. Just waiting on one more person who I haven't heard back from and then we are good to go.

I have received all but 9 responses. Not a major number, but the fact that I've been "reaching out" to these few for over a week, you would think they understand the importance of this and response. Yes or No, how hard is that. I'm not even getting "lame" excuses - just silence. I want to just right them off because I think that's what they did with us. smh!

@nursetraveler87 have you tried contacting any of them? I'm missing about 25 now. I called some Sunday & yesterday & realized I'm just not getting my card back & wasted Stamps.
