rsvp Envelopes

Ashley, on January 5, 2019 at 2:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

This may sound like a dumb question but I am confused about the RSVP return envelopes.

How do you address those, write our names and address on the center of the card and let them write a return address?

My mom tried to tell me it should be our address both places. But purs came printed with our invite order and it's only as the send to address and they'll write in their return address.

You could do that or you could put your address for both to ensure they'll get back to you no matter what. But letting them fill in the return address will let you see who it's from before opening. Either way your address goes in the center.

Hi Ashley, The return envelopes for your RSVP’s will have your return address on it and a stamp as a courtesy to your guests.

Yes, planned on doing a stamp! That's what I thought about addresses, thank you!

I'm not sure if you will know this but will a normal 50 cent stamp work for our invitations? Not sure if weight changes the price of the stamp? I want to bulk up before they go up in price this month!

Yes you’ll have to get them weighed first. I’m not sending mine out until April; however when I sent my save the dates the postage was 70 cents each because they were magnets. My future sister in law got married last September she paid $100.00 for stamps. She had a little over 100 invitations. I only have 33!

I'm just going to address them to myself and put on a stamp. I'm also numbering the back of the card in case they forget to write their name on there, which I've heard happens.

I would recommend going to the post office with your invite to weigh them. I won’t have mine completely ready by the end of the month but I am hoping to have at least a template out together with all of the paper I plan to use so I can buy my stamps. Do you remember what day the prices increase?

I guess they are going up 5 cents at the end of the month. Not a big difference but it adds up!

Postage is based on the weight and shape of the envelope so definitely take the full invitation suite to the post office so they can tell you how much postage to buy. As for the RSVP envelope, you put your name and address in the center so the post office knows to send them to you. What most couples do, and what we did, is put "The Future Mr. and Mrs. Last Name." The guests would then put their address in the upper left corner. We actually had this preprinted for our guests so we knew who was mailing them. (Some guests don't put their names.) You can also put a number on the back of the RSVP and assign this number to a guest so you can identify them.

I went to the post office a few months back when I was relocating, I put both addresses the same and the clerk would not allow it. I explained I was moving and will not reside in the state. He said sorry our policy states return and send to address must do different. As a result, I used a friend's address.

My RSVP's came already printed with our address printed on it, I just added a stamp and it all goes on weight. My husband went out and had the 1 weighed it's 1 oz. the price of 1 stamp.

Hi! Can you tell me about the numbering thing you are doing? Is it a number which corresponds to a name on your list? Smiley smile

Yes I’m just numbering my guest list like 1. Mom 2. Dad and stepmom 3. Brother 1, etc. then writing the number small on the back corner. Most people will mail back their rsvp with their name on it but sometimes I’ve heard ppl write will attend and don’t write their name! So if I get any blank ones I can just check my list. Some people use invisible ink pens which I am considering so my dad doesn’t get upset thinking he’s #2 for example, or maybe I’ll just not worry about it and use a regular pen.

Our invites were the first DIY thing that made me want to rip my hair out and caused tears 😅 but before I go into that let me answer your question first.

I use Avery labels (they all have online templates) to make all the address labels. I printed out a set of address and return for us, as well as a set for guests. That way I had them for the envelopes and then the RSVP cards. I didn’t realize including a return address on the RSVP wasn’t common... I assumed it was just courtesy for guests to make the process as easy as possible for them. Also elimates me guessing if someone doesn’t write it. It was time consuming typing them all in but no more time consuming than it was handwritting everything on our STDs... and now I have them all saved and ready to go for thank you cards Smiley smile

Anything over an ounce will require more postage than a regular stamp. The post ofdiice has 2 ounce stamps that are .71 and some of them are pretty designs for the purpose of being used for invites.

Just a warning to anyone using ribbon or anything “bulky” as belly bands .... I had to rip open EVERY INVITATION that I had just lovingly tied closed with a beautiful bow and redo them. The post office told me if it’s too thick to go through the machine it would be a parcel which = $4 A PIECE to mail and it would require a big ugly label going over the envelope or putting 7 stamps on each one. 😒

Here’s examples of the ribbon band that couldn’t be used ( it was an invite kit from Michael’s that we used to print our own design)... the labels on our envelopes and RSVP cards ( these ended up not matching because the RSVP envelopes were from the kit and the silver envelopes were what I used for the redo) and also the pretty 2 ounce stamps Smiley smile

PS- this example of RSVP was for my brother and his gf ( who is also my best friend) and her daughter. Before anyone points out that the format of the names is informal, it was meant to be. Lol.
