Ring Resizing...Ugh. (rant)

FutureMrsR-M, on June 14, 2018 at 12:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
My fiancé and I got engaged on May 28th (😍💪🏼☺️🤪😱🙃), but we had to take my ring in on the following Friday to get resized and I haven’t had it since. (My fiancé went one size larger than my finger because he was worried about it being too small... silly, but it is what it is). We originally took it to one shop who estimated a decent price, but then after the jeweler looked at it, gave a price much higher than we expected. So, after already leaving it with the first jeweler for half a week, we took it to another jeweler who gave us a lower estimate. But, since it had to be sized down a lot and there are several little diamonds on the band, the resizing is taking a while and I still haven’t gotten it back. My fiancé emphasized that it HAD to be finished by this Friday because I’m moving to Portland, Oregon on Saturday and won’t be around to get it after that.

I’m just bummed that I couldn’t wear my ring after we got engaged because it was too big and now it’s been 2 weeks at the jewelers. 😢💍

Do the diamonds go all the way around? If not then it should take any experienced jeweler no more than half an hour to size it down. It's really simple. I really hope they get your ring back to you soon

That sucks I totally get that feeling. I only had to wait three days and the day it was ready I had to travel for a work meeting so wouldn’t have time to pick it up before the store closed. I had my mother who was visiting from PA (she flew so didn’t have a car) take an Uber to the store to go get it while I was gone I wanted it back so badly 😂

The place where your fiancé got the ring doesn't offer free resizing? I had to resize mine and the place my fiancé got it at does a free resizing, I was without my ring for a week so I know how you feel! But when I first got engaged I was without my ring for about a month or so. The story was he proposed when we went to our vacation for Thailand. We live in Houston, and our vacation was in September, this was last year when Harvey hit so it was BAD. He had to drive to Louisiana to pick up the ring (to avoid the taxes sending it to Texas) but wasn't able to. So the jewelry company lended him a dummy ring to propose to me so when he proposed it wasn't the actual ring. I couldn't even wear the dummy ring since it was too big on me, and we wanted to keep the engagement a secret since we had another week of vacation with my family. So no ring the whole time on vacation, and after we got back I had to wait a week to return the dummy ring so they could ship the actual ring to Louisiana, and then I had to wait another week for him to pick it up. So I totally feel you on that! I hope you get your ring soon!

Ask the jeweler he bought it from. I took my ring to the place of purchase and was sized down for free, and I had it back the next day.

Why are they charging you? And what’s taking so long? My ring had to be sized down as well and it was free and took a couple of hours. I dropped my ring off, ran a few errands, and picked it up the same day.

My FH is a jewler. It does take time depending on how all those little diamonds are set. Otherwise you run the risk of damaging the settings and having them pop out. I know that it absolutely stinks having to wait for it, but I hope it is done right and then it will be perfect.

How come the jeweler it was bought from wouldn’t resize it for free??.. I understand the fact of it taking time and it definitely sucks .. but it should definitely be covered by the jewler

Oh wow that’s a long time to wait. And yes the store he bought it from does free resizing but we are both in the US right now and he bought the ring in Mexico.

The first jeweler we went to actually asked if our original helarles the ring was purchased from doesn’t do free resizing (they do actually). However, that jeweler is in Mexico... so it wasn’t really an option unless I wanted to wait until Christmas to wear my ring.

It wasn’t the place of the original purchase, so there was a charge. And the ring actually needed quite a bit of work down plus that particular store was quite busy, hence the long wait.

Yeah that’s exactly why it took longer. And the jeweler needed to add some tips around the little diamonds. Apparently the original jeweler didn’t add enough or finish them properly or something.

Hi FutureMrsR-M! That really is so frustrating, I too would be annoyed if I couldn’t show off such a stunning ring! Have you contacted the shop today to remind them of the tomorrow deadline? It would be very valid for you to be stern with them about meeting this requirement since they have known about it already. Good luck and easy lifting during your move, Oregon will love you!
