Random garter toss question

lrp0489, on March 28, 2016 at 9:24 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 30

So I am doing a garter toss but have a question about the whole process. I have no problem with my FH taking off my garter and throwing it but I feel a little awkward about the guy catching it putting it on the girl who caught the bouquet. Does anyone have any alternative ideas? Does the man who caught the garter have to put it on the girl who caught the bouquet? Is there anything else that he can do with it that isn't as awkward?

Thanks!

I've seen it where the guy puts it on the girl's arm instead of on her leg. In fact, I think they had to do it that way because the girl who caught the bouquet was a teenager and it would have been really creepy otherwise.

I have seen it where the girl puts it on the guy, pretty cute.

I have seen it where the guy wears it on his own arm instead and, like Tina said, one of the girls can put it on the guy.

I have heard of people just doing prizes for those who catch them. So when he catches it just present him with the prize.

We did the tosses for bouquet and garter and moved on lol. The guy who caught the garter didn't put it on the girl who caught the bouquet. I think he kept it? I don't actually know what he did with it, but it wasn't put on the bouquet catcher.

FH has decided we will not be doing the garter toss because it makes him uncomfortable. Also, we won't have that many single men there.

We decided this weekend that we're just going to take a picture with the guy and girl that catch the garter and bouquet. I'm all about not making things awkward for strangers.

I can't help. I've never even seen a garter tossed.

I have never actually seen the guy put the garter on the person who caught the bouquet. At weddings I have been to that did the bouquet and garter toss, the guy who caught the garter just put it on his arm.

The lasr wedding we were at was before we were engaged (it was my sisters) they had originally planned to just take pictures with whoever caught them but since me and FH happened to catch it we switched it up and he put it on me lol.... I think we will be rolling with it based on who catches it

I have never seen anything happen with the garter after it is thrown. WW was the first time I heard about the guy having to put it on the girl who caught the bouquet and it still freaks me out. Nope. I've seen the bride and groom take a picture with the people who caught them, but that's it.

I have been to countless weddings with a garter toss and have actually never seen the guy that caught it put it on anyone else. Just let someone catch it and leave it at that. I would be really embarrassed if I were either one of them and had to do that.

We're just going to take a picture of them together. no him putting it on her and no them dancing together. there is so much potential for it to get weird. we're just doing it for fun

The first time I've heard of the guy who catches the garter and then puts it on the bouquet-catching girl was at WW. I've never seen this happen at any wedding I've been to, I don't know it's it's a new tradition or just regional.

I'm not doing a garter toss but for an alternative idea I'd go with having a photo taken of the garter and bouquet catching victims.

Never heard of that honestly. We are doing a boutonnière toss instead, I'm not comfortable with the garter toss. But we are not having the girl and guy do anything special that would be awkward like a special dance or something

In one wedding that I caught the bouquet and a garter toss was also done, a 10-year-old caught the garter. So the DJ had him put it on my arm. Then he called my FH over, and he put it on my leg.

I like PPs ideas of having prizes for catching the bouquet and garter instead, and a picture of the two "winners" together, if you are afraid it will be awkward to have the guy put it on the girl. Maybe come up with an alternative plan with the DJ in case something like my situation happens. I'm sure they have backup plans anyway for cases like that.

Coincidentally I caught the bouquet and had a random guy put it on my leg, it wasn't as awkward as it may seem - as long as the guy behaves!

I plan on "tossing" (giving) the bouquet to my future sister in-law because I want her to get married next!

Thanks everyone! We are meeting with the dj tomorrow and I will run it by him! I like the idea of taking pictures with the winner or even having the girl out it on the guy (depending on who catches them).

I've seen that they just do a dance together. Once it was the Barney song and the other time I think it may have been a Marvin Gaye song.

Both were uncomfortable for me to watch.
