Purchasing Alcohol for Our Reception & Cocktail Hour

Jenny, on October 7, 2015 at 7:11 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

After reading numerous blogs regarding purchasing our own alcohol for our wedding, however I am scared to take the leap and make the purchase. Our wedding is exactly one month away and this task needs to get checked off the list. So even though we are having 75 guests, I am basing our numbers on 100 since we have many friends that really like to drink! Smiley smile Below are the recommendations, but my dilemma is that responses to the blogs said that it was way too much or way too little. So I am coming to the experts, YA'LL, and asking from personal experiences. What do you think?

10 bottles of liquor: Whiskey, Vodka, Gin, White Rum (this # seems low to me??)

144 bottles of beer: mixtures of light beer, fall beer, and dark/ales

84 bottles of wine: 1/2 white and 1/2 red

No Champagne

Mixers: Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Pineapple juice, Cranberry juice, Orange juice, tonic, sweet and sour mix

Water: 10 cases of water

Any and all advice is appreciated!!!!

That doesn't seem like to much to me. But my family and friends are big drinkers. We broke the record for most alcohol ever drank at our venue. I know we went through 3 kegs and I don't know how much liquor or wine.

If it turns out to be to much it is something that can be saved.

I think that you've got more than enough wine, but I would buy a few more liquor bottles and some more beer. However I am no expert and haven't done this before! And I know all of the drink calculators out there vary greatly!

Can you find a distributor who will buy back any unused liquor? That will give you some more freedom!

We went through a liquor store who helped with suggestions on what to buy, they delivered everything to the venue and took back everything unopened. We have friends who like to drink but surprisingly drank less than anticipated.

The calculators that I found showed us having 20-1.75 bottles of alcohol and 23 cases of beer/hard cider. Unless you know for a gaby you have almost all heavy hitters the suggestion is 1 drink per person per hour. This is to cover those who may just have 1 or 2 and then those that drink more. Also take into consideration ashes of everyone. We have 150 but a lot of children.

I used the one drink per person per hour for all adults at my wedding but ended up with a ton of alcohol left over. Thankfully we could return the beer (4 cases left over from 7 that we bought) and decided to keep the wine (5 liters worth out of 8) since my aunt and I will both drink it in the future. We didn't buy liquor. I think we averaged 1 drink per adult per hour but most of it came from the champagne we set out on the tables, which was all got drank.

So this was the hardest for me! We finally found a liquor store that does a lot of wedding so they knew there stuff. I'll attach what he gave us. We hv 160 guest so that makes our numbers a bit different but you can at least get an idea

We had about 100 people and I think I only purchased 8 bottles of wine. We had one left over. We had 100 bottles of beer, they were all gone, and about 10 bottles of liquor and we still have some left. Our family seems to drink heavy but no one wants to get drunk at a wedding right?
