Providing your own alcohol, What should I have?

Kiera, on May 24, 2017 at 3:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

So my catering package is included with the venue and it includes a bartender and bar set up but not the actual alcohol. I have to bring it.he venue doesn't ave an actual restuarunt or bar onsite but they have a caterer they use,) I dont want to do just beer and wine, for one they both make me sleepy not tipsy. I like rum and coke and other mixed rinks. Thinking of making some beach themed pitcher drinks ahead of time.

How many varieties of beer and wine should I have? Im thinking a few bottles of cabernet , white zifandel and some other white wine. We'll probably buy a case of cheap beer like coors lite, should i have another beer option?

We are expecting 25-35 people if that helps, some of which are kids and teenagers.

I think Binny's has an estimator on their website - at the very least, if you go to Binny's they can help you with this.

I don't think you need to get crazy with the options for beers - maybe have 2. And get two kinds of red and two kinds of white wine. Maybe have two types of hard alcohol and buy mixers.

Most distributors have guide sheets to help you with this.

I know what liqours go with what mixers I make my own drinks at home all the time. Im just wondering ettiqette wise do I need more than one kind of beer if im providing a bunch of liqour and wine?

Edit: I was imaging having a cooler ful of beer cans but I completely forgot that I can do a Kegg wich might be a better value. But I still wonder if I should have more than one kind of beer?

I would do a standard light beer and then one more interesting/local/flavorful beer.

You need more than 1 kind of beer. I would say 3.

Just because you dislike beer doesn't mean your guests share your opinion. I would do 2 beer options. They recommend a domestic and imported.

Also, with respect to beer, cheap can also mean poor quality. Maybe get something with a little more flavor and oomph than Coors Light?

Edit, I missed your 35 person guest list. If your crowd doesn't like beer maybe weight it to the wine and liquor, but still provide decent quality beer.

I don't think you realize how lucky you are to buy your own alcohol. You can save soooo much money. I have estimated after pricing out my local venues that I am saving around $8,000 by not being locked into bar contracts.

Go to Sam's, Costco, Kroger, your local liquor store, and Total Wine to price everything out. Kroger offers 20% cases of wine every month or so. Watch for that and stock up if you don't have a Total Wine because they do the same thing and also start at lower prices.

Unopened liquor and wine lasts forever so way overbuy. Beer also lasts about 6 months.

Just know with a keg that it's a sunk cost and whatever is not drunk gets thrown away. You have such a small guest list, I highly recommend skipping a keg.
