Do you ladies think programs are necessary?

They are totally unnecessary! But my FMIL really wanted them as a keepsake, lots of my FH's family will keep them, they're just like that. We ordered some from Zazzle that are beautiful and inexpensive. But I don't know why you'd need programs for the reception?

I don't think they are necessary, but if you want them I think only have them for the ceremony.

I'm using it for the ceremony to have directions from the ceremony to the Reception and with the gate code and parking instructions. So for me necessary. But otherwise I don't think they are needed.

I think they are helpful for religious ceremonies.

We are having them for the ceremony, mostly because we are having a Greek Orthodox ceremony and the programs will explain the different parts of it so people can follow along and understand the significance or each portion of the ceremony. I don't really see why they would be needed for the reception?

Thanks for the input everyone! I've been to weddings this summer where there was only a program for the ceremony or only for the reception. I want to see what folks at WW are doing

We had one of those program signs and that was displayed at the ceremony as well as reception. We didn't ask for it at the reception but I guess thats standard at the venue so they moved it to the reception.

@Bee ohhh was it one of those larger sized signs? If so, where did you have it printed/designed?

I didn't want programs, but they came as part of a package my FMIL bought so we have them. We are only having them for the ceremony

They are not at all required...but can be a nice memento.

If you want to have them but want to save money, just do a simple one you do yourself or write it on a blackboard (or whatever goes with the wedding style) so they see and have an idea when they walk in? good luck!

We will be having them for the ceremony because it is a religious ceremony that a lot of our guests will be unfamiliar with. Never seen them for the reception unless it was a sign that said like "dinner 7pm, dancing 8pm"... etc.

Just the ceremony. I haven't heard of programs being used for a reception. I didn't do STD's so I wanted programs plus it included an 'in memory' and our thank you on it.

They are totally unnecessary but I bought some anyway because they were cute and cheap. I know there will be a ton left over.
