Processional Etiquette FFIL new GF

Tori, on August 24, 2015 at 11:07 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 24

FH & I were kind of confused over the weekend about this. So I told him I would ask you guys to help us since we are not sure what the proper way here is...

FH is super stressed about dealing with FFIL for anything wedding related. FFIL cheated on his last GF, and is now with a new girl. FFIL just ended his 5th divorce. We do not know her. I have never met her & we are getting married in 2.5 weeks so I really don't see us meeting her. FH doesn't even know her name. Our original invite included his last GF because we knew her & they were together for a while. Now, FFIL wants to bring the new chick. Fine whatever. How do they walk in the processional? Does she walk in with him? I really don't want her too, because we don't know her. Does she get introduced in to the reception with him? We have no idea?

Our processional:

FH

GM

FFIL (new girl?)

FMIL & Stepdad

MOB & my godmother

BP & RB

Bride & FOB

I would not include her in the processional, or have her introduced at the reception.

My dad just recently started dating again after my mom passed, and honestly if my wedding was 2.5 weeks away, even if I met her and liked her, I would not have her walk in the processional. If you don't mind she could be announced at the reception, but I don't think I would make that concession either.

Agree ^. I would have her seated at the ceremony and have FFIL walk by himself

I would have her sitting next to or around your father for the ceremony, but that's where it ends. No walking in the processional or being announced at the reception.

We were going to have her seated with him, we just didnt know if it was wrong cause she an SO

I just don't know if its wrong to have FFIL walk in solo.

I agree have her seated as a guest before the processional, and don't have parent's announced unless they want and expect to be. I'm not expecting to be announced as MOG. I thought that was bridal party only.

I think it will look odd for FFIL to walk solo. How about have a GM escort GF to her seat with the other guests. Then have FFIL walk in with his son/your FH? Followed by FMIL and her husband? I think that sounds nice.

She should be seated by an usher the other guests, next to the seat reserved for him.

He walks in the processional by himself. She is effectively a 'date', based on the amount of time they've been together.

BTW, if you don't mind my asking, I'm just curious what is your family's faith tradition?

Your order of processional isn't something I've seen before...

Agree with @Rebecca! Have her already seated by an usher next to where FFIl will sit. Don't have her process or be introduced at the reception. She's a date, not a family member!

Don't include her IN the wedding. AT the wedding ok, she's his date, but she shouldn't be IN the wedding.

@Tori, I don't think it's a problem for him to walk solo, BUT if it bugs you, there's another option... he can escort MOB and Godmother, one on each arm, to their seats. (On the way out, he'd walk with his date, after you and FH, and BMs/GMs walk out people will simply walk out row by row, beginning from the front.)

She shouldn't be included in anything but treated as a regular guest. As someone said, she's a date at this point, not a long term commitment.

@Rebecca- we are having a non- religious ceremony. My godmother is walking because she is my moms best friend. We were going to give roses to honor my godparents but my godfather passed suddenly. This way we aren't bringing too much attention to her.

FH does not want to walk with his dad. They do not have that kind of relationship. I really don't mind him walking in solo. That is fine with me. FH doesn't care either. We just weren't sure of the right way.

She should not walk in the processional, nor should she be introduced. Your processional looks just fine.

If they aren't close, does he have to walk at all? Why can't he just be seated as a normal guest? There is nothing that says all parents have to walk in the processional.

@SwoleMates2016 - They aren't close but FH still wants his dad to feel like he is apart of it. FH has a big heart when it comes to FFIL. He wants to have a good relationship with him, but FFIL tends to do things FH frowns on. But we don't want to alienate him.

I definitely don't think you need to include her in the processional. FFIL has a newish girlfriend, who FH and I have only met once, and they've only been together about 6 months. She will certainly be included as his girlfriend, be seated with him, etc. but she will not be in the processional. What we're doing actually, since FFIL and FMIL are divorced, is that both of them will walk with their own parents, but that really only works because neither of them are remarried.
