Possible new venue?

pmarie9217, on February 18, 2017 at 2:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

So my FH and I went and looked at another venue today, due to the issue we had with our last one. We are pretty set on wanting to book with them, and we are awaiting the contract for us to finalize everything along with our deposit. No other arrangements will be done until so...I learned my lesson last time by not having one.

It's not exactly what my dream venue would be, but I think it's perfect for what we need. Plenty of space, enough tables, and the price was nice. The only downfalls were, I had to change my original date (moved to a month early) and we would be having the ceremony and the reception in the same room. Is that weird? I originally wanted an outside ceremony but this place doesn't offer that. Has anyone else ever done that? The other negative is that she stressed about it being completely non smoking outside. Is that rude for my guests?

For the first question of same space, I believe that it CAN be done but I am not really an expert on that. I will say my sister got married in this garden and they had a little ceremony in one section and the reception in the other. One thing to be sure of is that you aren't making guests have to drag their chairs around or anything like that. IMO, that's just weird.

For smoking, I would RATHER have a place that is non smoking. But, I really hate smoking, so that may be an UO.

I wouldn't have anyone move the chairs around. The room is quite big, I would basically just have them at their tables with the row in the middle, if that makes sense?

I am a smoker, however, I wouldn't be upset if I couldn't the day of my wedding. I don't smoke while i'm working anyway, so I could go a full day lol I'm not sure if other people would mind though.

The reception and ceremony being in the same room is fine. That's what we did. But the venue should be moving the chairs, not your guests. Or just have your guests sit at the tables.

ETA: misread the smoking thing and thought it said it wasn't non-smoking.

I'm okay with it being non smoking outside, even as a smoker. obviously i wouldn't want anyone smoking inside! i don't even know if that is legal anymore lol i just wasn't sure if that would be rude towards any smokers who would be there to not be able to smoke at all.

It's not weird at all. Make sure you have the staff on hand to help flip the room. If you can have the tables set up separately from the ceremony, I would suggest doing that as sitting at the tables kind of gives a different vibe

I don't think it is a problem to have it in the same space. I mean most venues with outdoor ceremony's have that as the contingency plan when it rains right? I think it's semicommon. As far as smoking I think it's a know your crowd thing. For me it would not matter in the least cuz none of my guests smoke.

Having the ceremony and reception in the same room is totally doable. My brother and SIL did that at their wedding. Everyone was seated at their tables and their was a clear aisle for all of us to walk down. It worked out nicely.

As for the smoking I wouldn't worry about it.
