Planning my honeymoon, am I trying to do too much?

Kathryn, on October 13, 2014 at 2:25 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 25

When I go on vacation, I have a hard time balancing between relaxing and taking advantage of all the amazing adventures of a new city. I feel bad if I'm not doing enough and I'm exhausted if I do too much! I'm planning our honeymoon on Kauai for 7 days and I have a rough draft of a schedule. Do you think I'm doing to much stuff? I'm not counting the day we arrive/leave, just active days!

Day 1- Snorkel Tour (7am-2pm)

Day 2 - Helicopter Tour at 8am & Luau beginning at 3pm

Day 3 - Horseback riding at either 10am or 1130 for 3 hours

Day 4 - Zipline and Tubing adventure 8am-5pm (busiest day!)

Day 5 - Sunset Cruise that docks at 230pm

Day 6- FH gets to go shoot sporting clays in the morning and I'll tag along Smiley smile This wont be more than an hour total for the day, and it will then become a free day!

Day 7 - 100% Free day. We might use this as a back up if the tours is canceled for bad weather.

I feel there is a balance between doing to much. We have a rental car too! Thoughts?

We did 7 days in St. Martin and had two "planned" excursions. On other days, we just went with the flow of what struck us as fun - a drive around the island, hanging by the beach and grabbing masks/fins for a little snorkeling on our own.

For me, your schedule would be too much. Part of a honeymoon is getting to just relax and not do much after all the planning and stuff surrounding the wedding. You're allowed to slow down some. LOL!

I know haha FH and I are just huge adventure people! It almost seems silly to travel and spend all this money just to say in bed lol We do that at home anyway! I might get rid of one of the adventures, I just don't know which one yet. Most likely the Sunset cruise since we get back to the dock at sunset, seems a little weird to me haha

Dang...usually I schedule A LOT in the trip when FH and I are on vacation, but never this much. I never have anything booked when we arrive somewhere and play it by ear depending on what we want to do that day but its mostly unplanned.

I like to have a day where there is nothing going an we can just lay on the beach or explore the area, but we also tend to be a bit more spontaneous that that list when we travel....your schedule (for me) is definitely WAY too much!

My honeymoon is a 19 day road trip to 11 national parks, so I definitely don't think you are planning too much. I also like adventure and keeping busy. For me, laying around on the beach gets really boring really fast. Your days are all still very wide open with the exception of just one or two, so I say looks good.

Ya, I will admit its a little busy, but those tours when you go with companies and its all up to them what you do are way busier! We still have plenty of time and most of our stuff is either morning or early afternoon so we have the rest of the day to do whatever. Remember we are going to Kauai and from what I've been told, the island basically shuts down by 9pm every night, so we'll definitely be indoors enjoying each other then!! hahaha

That definitely looks like too much to me but Hubby and I are usually beach bums, so even a little bit would seem too much to me. When we went on our second honeymoon in Aruba, we did a little bit each day and that was more than we usually do. lol

I don't think so. You have overall 1-2 activities per day that are a couple to few hours each, the rest is free time. Though unless you're a morning person, I don't see doing something at 7 am the first day of your honeymoon, but that's me lol

And trust me! This is much slower than our normal lives! We both work at least 10 hour days each, so having one or two small events a day is great for us! I talked to FH about it and he always says we can book all these events when we are there, except for the big ones like the helicopter tour and luau, as those ones seem to fill up fast! I think we'll do that instead, that way we can wake up and decide what we want to do from our list of things we can do! Thanks for the help ladies!

I think it just depends on how active you normally are. If you already have have the go go go mentality then I don't think it's too much. My biggest question to myself would be if we do all this will we look back and regret not just doing nothing? And if we don't do it will we regret that? In the end those questions will most likely determine if your schedule is too full. Good luck!

We were exhausted and honestly took a nap most days we were gone. Just the stress leading up to the wedding wore us down.

Do you have to PRE-PAY for any of this? Meaning, a lot of tour options book up fast, so if you have to put a non-refundable deposit down for all of this stuff, then I would say i don't think it's too much to do, but I do think it's risky to over-schedule yourselves, ESPECIALLY the first day there.

My advice would be, unless you've been there before, bookend the trip with 1 day off when you arrive, so you can scout the area, talk to the concierge, and revisit your plans for the week, and have time to make adjustments, and if necessary, to find alternatives. And allow 1 day off at the end of the trip, so you're not up till midnight packing, and in case you didn't get around to visiting a cafe or shop you saw and missed during the week, so you can wind down before returning.

We're only planning on 2 excursions. That seems like a lot. It sounds more like one of my family vacations - the kind where everyone come back home more tired and cranky then when they left. I was always in need of second vacation when I got back because of all the things we have to accomplish in the time frame! We just want to eat, drink, and spend time relaxing.

It's going to be exhausting and you'll already be exhausting. I'd cut it in half.

All my relatives plan this kind of schedule when they're coming and not 1 gets thru half of it. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE TRAVELING exhaustion, by day 2 they just wanna plant their butts in the sand and grab a drink

We are going to Oahu and Maui, we have only booked our Pearl Harbor tour and luau at the advice of our travel agent. I had a spreadsheet by day too...she pretty much called me crazy. Our (my) thought is I want to make the most of the time we are there.

Sounds like a lot going on there. When planning vacation, I like to have a long list of things that we could possibly do and then we can pick one when we are ready to do something...so we don't have to say "what do you want to do?" "i don't know...what do you want to do?" haha.
