Photos or video?

Michelle, on January 8, 2019 at 12:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 9
My fiance and i are trying to find ways to save money. I recommend not getting a videographer because how often would we really watch the video? I feel photos are better because we can make copies put them around the house send to family, etc. He insists that we do video as well but i dont see the point in something we wouldn't watch all the time...what fo you all think we need opinions please help!

I love wedding videos so much that I watch other people’s on YouTube all the time just for feels. I hired an incredible photographer already, but I’ll be finding a videographer as well.

One argument I saw for a videographer pro was to have a video for future kids to see and hear their grandparents and other family who may have passed and enjoying those happy moments. I thought that was sweet.
However, I'm not planning on hiring one. I just don't have it in the budget.

I agree with PP. It is a nice concept about elderly and relatives or even friends who might pass but you should have cherished moments with those people already throughout your life. In my mind pictures are memories too. Telling your kids all about your wedding and showing them pictures works just the same. I agree that you wouldn't watch it all the time. Wedding videos just remind me of those movies where they divorce and the ex-wife is crying at her wedding video watching it over and over lol. I would only watch it once right after a wedding, maybe twice if others wanted to see it too, but then I'd forget about it. We just could not afford a videographer because we splurged on a photographer.

At the last minute I did hire a videographer - just to do the ceremony. I did this primarily based on feedback here. The day goes by so fast and things end up being sort of a blur. I'm grateful to have the ceremony recorded - we've watched it a couple of times. Not sure how much more we'll do it in the future but at the moment, it was the right decision for me. That being said, I had the $ and didn't go into debt or pull away from something else more important to do this.

I didn't do a videographer but that's because neither of us could imagine wanting to sit down and watch watch that video.

Your situation is different bc FH does want one. I think that if this is important to him then maybe it is worth making the budget for it.

If I had to chose between one or the other, I would definitely have a photographer vs a videographer. We were going to skip the video all together, but I found someone that is just starting out and was 1/4 the price of others. We are still waiting on our video though, so there is that. Lol

Videographers are great and their services can be used for various "looking back" moments; However, a lot of the time they're very overpriced. My philosophy is this: You can't hang a video on your wall or give to family members. How often are you actually going to look at the footage besides on anniversaries? We personally invested in a good photographer instead. Ultimately, it's up to you and what you guys can afford. This is just my two cents!

A wedding video is "nice," but I definitely agree with you that if you had to choose between the two to save some $$ it's definitely not NECESSARY. We didn't have a videographer. We don't regret it one bit. In my entire lifetime, I don't know of anyone personally that has actually sat down and watched their wedding video. Honestly. I'm sure people do, but in my 30+ years on this planet, I haven't met one.

Photos to me were where it's at, 100%.

I have a rare autoimmune disease and i have chemotherapy done as a treatment for it but it cost 50,000$ each time i recive a treatment and i get 4 a year and insurance pays for part of it but not all so saving money where we can is crucial for us! The problem we are having with agreeing to get the videographer is that he believes we are going to watch it all the time and i know thats not ture but i feel hes trying to find a reason to get it even though we are not going to watch it but maybe 2x. I hope this makes more sence for everyone.
