Photo Booth - Worth?

ChelsM, on May 12, 2015 at 1:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Ever since I went to a wedding with a photo booth a few years ago (and got the best pics of FH and myself as a couple that we have), I've wanted a photo booth at my wedding. It was so fun, the booth printed 2 copies-- one to keep, one to paste in a guest book and sign-- and also hosted them online. It just really hit me as a nice favor and a great touch for the cocktail hour and reception. Problem is they are so expensive! It would easily be more than our photography budget. I think my family would use it, probably a lot... then I thought DIY route, but it just seems like such a pain, if something goes wrong there wouldn't be anyone to fix it. It's not THE most important thing... but it's one of the few things I have pictured in my head for sure. Our venue even has a room they normally put the booth in. My question is... I guess is it worth it? Not having a booth wouldn't make us any less married obviously... has anyone tried the DIY route with success/failure?

I had a friend DIY a photobooth for her fathers party, luckily they already owned everything they pretty much needed and it was super easy to use and a lot of fun, however the photos weren't the best quality.

Our DJ offered us a package price (discounted) if we chose to combine with the photobooth, of course we went for it! So much less stress.

I considered trying a DIY route for this but ultimately, everything I researched was just too complicated with the printer setup and everything. I haven't actually booked my photobooth yet but it's something we are making extra room in the budget for because I think all the guests, from bridal party to grandparents, will enjoy it and we'll have those photos forever. Also I'm really looking forward to comparing the photos from 7pm to the photos at 10:30pm. Smiley winking

We're having a photo booth. It was a must for both of us....$650 for 6 hours, unlimited reprints (everyone in the booth gets a photo. That was important to me, many places only offered 1-2 reprints that I found), disc with the images as well as a copies but into a book onsite.

I think it's worth it. It's a nice addition to the wedding if you have the budget. A DIY photo booth will be very hard to pull off.

Also...it took me weeks on WW, TK and Google researching different companies and comparing pricing. It was one of the hardest things to book! @OP...you mentioned that the booth is in a different room? Can that be changed should book one? I had a friend who had one at her wedding and it was set up elsewhere...she was looking forward to the drunk photos and the problem was that people didn't remember it was there...out of sight out of mind. She didn't get too many photos from it

I personally think it's worth it. It's something we budgeted for in the beginning because FH really wanted one. We got it for $700 which was the best deal we could find here in NY. I'm excited for it. We're doing the photobooth frames as the place cards & favors. & the guestbook will be the one with the photbooth strips in it so ultimately we felt is was definitely worth it

I think a DIY photo booth is really hard to pull off but, if you have the energy for it you could try it. We had one. It was actually my BIL's and I have worked it at other events. You want someone that knows what they are doing and are not going to get sidetracked with the other guests. I think it is worth the investment.

Totally worth it in my opinion. We booked ours for 4hrs for $480. That includes unlimited pic, props, and a guestbook.

Any photobooth that was DIY that I've been around nobody really utilized it. Ones that had people operating them seemed to go over a lot better. People (myself included) don't like to mess with other people's cameras and such.

Mine is $400 for 4 hours with people operating it, the strips, and there's also a 12 second video at the end that we get a DVD of each person. Try Groupon, I've seen crazy deals on there.

A lot of DJs have them. That's what we did. I want to say it was about $500 for the photo booth part. Everyone loved it. It was a big hit at our wedding.

This is great info, thank you ladies. I was recently at a wedding that had one but I never saw anyone use it because it was in a corner where the cocktail hour was, way in the back and out of sight. @Maltese, we could put it elsewhere, but that room is on the way to the bathrooms and where the cocktail hour/dance floor is so it's pretty central to everything. I would make sure our BP spread the word to everyone about it, and even put signs up (which I hate). Maybe I'll hope that our DJ has a package deal or something, that would be sweet. Did you ladies to an actual booth? Or was it just the backdrop and props and a freestanding camera type of thing?

The good thing is photobooths don't "book up" per se, so you don't have to make the decision right away. They are very popular right now. Our venue offers photobooth as an add on for $600. We don't have to decide on any add on until final payment (6 weeks before the wedding). So if by then we have an extra $600 we can have one, same thing with carving stations and all. The better we are with savings then we add the extras. FH doesn freak out with the budget this way because its like lets make sure we have all the must haves paid for first.

I guess I should clarify- if we do a physical booth (enclosed, that whole thing) it couldn't go in that separate room because it is down some stairs. There is another place to put it in the main foyer so that wouldn't be the end of the world.
