Photo booth or Caricaturist?

M&SC, on January 21, 2016 at 9:28 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 28

Our wedding planner came up with an idea to have a caricaturist instead of a photobooth at our wedding. We like the idea, but want to know if it's too over the top. Opinions please [:

Caricatures take a long time to do. The one I saw at a bridal show 2 years ago said she can draw 4-5 people in an hour. That means only a handful of your guests can actually utilize this. It also takes a lot time for the guest to be away from the party. A photo booth is quick, you get to keep a photo book of it all, and everyone can do it multiple times. I vote photo booth, no question.

I think this idea is so cute and I've seen it a few times but I'm a bigger fan of the quick fun of a Photo Booth as opposed to having to sit out of dancing for a caricaturist. But, I think if you don't have a big dancing crowd this could be a lot of fun and cute as a favor.

We are all definitely dancers lol. I had no idea they take that long! That alone decides it for us. Thanks everyone!

I agree it depends on the group. We had quite a few older folks so for us it would have worked great. If people will really want to dance maybe not.

I loved the caricaturist we had at ours. It went over very well. And no if you find the right artist they do not take that long. Ours was able to draw couples in 5-6 minutes.

They are both a huge waste of money...but if I had to choose, I would do the photobooth

Michaela makes a good point - Every artist is different. This was from 2 years ago when it was not a thing. She was probably in the first wave of it being tried out. So they may be able to do more than what she told me. It's a person, so every artist is different! You should speak with local artists who do this, to give you a better idea of how many they can do a night. I'm still pro photo booth, though. They are fun, you get a keepsake, they get a keepsake, people can go back multiple times, it's probably cheaper. Just my opinion.

Like above said, I think a caricaturist would be really cool but only if you can find one who works pretty fast! Photo booths are always a hit.

We are still thinking about the caricaturist as well! I think it's a really cute idea, personally. Any other "favor" I've come up with seems wasteful. The ones I've contacted said the take about 3-5 mins for black and white portraits which isn't bad. they charge by hour, for my wedding of 50 and his 2 hour minimum it worked out to $3.50 per guest Smiley smile

We had a caricaturist at our wedding and people LOVED it!! We had a really cute seating area by him, which was also right next to the dancing, so people could dance and then hop over to get their picture drawn. We had ours for 4 hours and it was enough to get about 80 people done during that time. People were so excited, it was unique and different. A lot of our guests told me they have already framed it!

I'm on the fence about it. I'm leaning toward a caricature artist.

If I had to choose, I would choose photo booth because a caricaturist would take too long. Although I'm not a fan of either because it takes people away from the dance floor.

I will never forget the bride from here that complained in her BAM that people stood in line for the photo booth all night while the dance floor was almost empty.

We were gifted a caricature artist by my in laws. It's not my style but most guests loved it. I've seen some guests have it framed and hung in their homes.

Our guy was pretty good and fast. His main job is working Philly sporting events. There was a line though and I was irritated that people were waiting for that rather than dancing.

For fun, here's ours. It doubled as a guest book.

Photo booth is better for a large wedding.

A caricaturist was on my dream wedding list. Financially it didn't end up hapening. BUT where our reception is is right by National Harbor. Sometimes there are street caricaturists. And if there are any out on the night of our wedding, we are absolutely getting a caricature done haha.

I'm having a photobooth. There's at least 5 guests who have had major surgeries and won't be able to dance for long, if at all. So this will give them something else to do. Plus I'm sure there's going to be others that won't constantly be on the dance floor. But I do hope the dance floor isn't empty! I

I thought about characatures, but decided to do a diy photo booth. Bought an app for my iPad for $10 and will just use a wireless printer to print off 4x6. Takes 3 photos 10 seconds apart. Custom photo booth I think was the name.

I also thought about having a caricaturist instead of a photo booth, but when talking with the company they did share they would only be able to accommodate a certain amount of guest and not all. I decided to go with the photo booth.

Photobooth! Ours allows unlimited prints so people can take as many pictures they want with different groups.

I love the idea of a caricaturist but as pp have said...id be worried about timing. And we have gotten our picture drawn a couple of times. And I couldn't tell you where those pictures are. Unlike photobooth strips- ours are on the fridgeSmiley smile
