NWR: *updated pic in comments*help me decide how to finish off our kitchen

APZ, on June 5, 2017 at 1:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 36

DH and I are finishing updating the kitchen in our new home and can't decide on one last element..so we need some unbiased opinions. So far we have painted the cabinets and walls, changed grout color on backsplash, swapped out drawer pulls, new faucet/sink, got new granite counters....and our last thing is picking an island color. (Well really still need to update the lighting because it's dim as all get out.. but that's a project for DH)

For the island our options are:

1) paint it white like rest of the cabinets (kinda boring, but nothing wrong with it)

2) paint it the same grey as walls, color is sherwin Williams pussywillow (can't not giggle at that..)

3) paint it a contrasting color to give it a pop or something besides grey and white. We are thinking a dark blue grey or even a dark teal as there are blues tied in through the rest of our house. The two color options we are looking at are SW 'slate tile' and 'Tempe star'

Or 4)make a suggestion on another color!

I think if you did blue decor, the blue could look really nice. If you don't, it might feel a little out of place. I like the tempe star the best. My second choice would be to keep it white, because it always looks crisp and it's easier to repaint later if you decide you want something different.

I would paint it white to match the cabinets. I've always hated islands being a different color, but that's just my personal opinion.

I am a pretty basic person who like long term so I'd paint it the same colour as cabinets.

    White all the way.

Here is a picture of our kitchen renovated about 18 months ago. Prior to furnished.

Great work so far!!! I love the updates, especially how much of a difference the grout color makes,

I was actually going to suggest a dark blue/grey tone - I love the idea of a pop of color on that island.

It looks like you guys have done a great job! I love the idea of blue, adding a pop of color from another area of the house really helps everything seem cohesive. I would be hesitant to go with white just because typical foot traffic, dropped food, or anything scuffed against it might show on the white paint really easily.

I would normally go with your cabinet color, but in this case I think I'd go with the grey to match the walls.

I'm so jealous of this kitchen, it looks awesome. I think option 3 using the dark grey would look nice!

Paint it a different color! Navy, dark teal and blue grey are huge right now. You can always repaint it when that trend fades.

Also I'm super jealous of your fridge. That's going to be the first thing to go after the wedding.

Thanks all for the input..we are pretty confident with option 3 now...but just debating between those two colors now...

@MNbride--the previous homeowners left it and it is the awesome!

I'd choose grey personally. What you've done looks awesome! I'm probably biased though as my kitchen is painted grey an has white cabinets. When I want to add pops of color I change up the curtains and dish towels.

I would go a couple of shades darker on the same color swatch- Grizzle Gray or Peppercorn. That ensures that the undertones are the same.

What popped out to me is that the entire kitchen has a cool grey-white tone now, but your floor is flaming orange

Definitely paint a muted blue or darker blue to give it some contrast! I used to be an interior designer and one thing I can tell you is do not be afraid to add color and also, don't worry about always "matching" everything, therefore I would stay away from keeping it white. Just my opinion though Smiley smile you guys have done an amazing job!

I think the darker gray (the wall color) would look nice. Great job by the way!
