FH and I are both teachers at a private girls' high school that's a bit unusual in several ways. About 50% of the students are either dorm boarders or living independently in rented rooms in town. Also, we keep the same homerooms for years, starting with one homeroom group in Grade 9 and remaining as their HR teacher until they graduate. As a result of both these things, the school feels a lot like family. We're both really close with our classes and we care about these girls a lot.
Both our HRs have said that they would like to have a dinner for us to celebrate our engagement. They want to reserve tables at local restaurant and celebrate there. I know they are planning on gifts as well.
The thing is, they aren't invited to the wedding. It's a very small DW; it's just impossible. I don't want to go against etiquette and accept gifts and dinner from non-guests, but I know they'll be really hurt if we refuse.
Any ideas?
