No Kids at the reception

Tarsha , on April 19, 2017 at 5:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

FH and I decided on NO KIDS except for the ones that's in the wedding. Now my sister is feeling some type of way about her two sons not being able to come. Every time we is around each other she always bring up the fact that her sons can't come. She stated she will be there for the wedding but will not attend the reception. And I said oh well I don't care. Now am I wrong for not wanting kids at the reception?

No you aren't wrong. We aren't having kids at our wedding either except the ones in the wedding. I understand she's your sister but it's your wedding. Less of a headache with no kids there!

    What. Ever.

    Yes Celia!!!

We are #teamnokids as well. Not even in the wedding. My brothers got over it because I'm the only sibling not to have flower girls/ring bearers. But to be totally honest, not all of my nieces and nephews are super reliable and well behaved lol. Shrug! Oh well. It's an adult event :-p

I'm in the same situation. Stick to your guns, if you don't you will regret it. This is not her wedding and she has no right to dictate your guest list.

I'm a little confused. Why would your sister be offended at the No Kids Reception but fine with the No Kids (except for the FGs and RBs) Ceremony? Are you letting people bring their kids to the ceremony but not the reception?

ETA: If you have a consistent No Kids except the ones in the wedding party rule for both the ceremony and the reception, I agree with PP. Stick to your guns, they'll get over it or they wont.

I'm all for no kids and there is nothing wrong with that. I saying "oh well I don't care" to your sister may not have been the best way to say it.

We're having a kid free wedding also, which includes not having my brothers FOUR kids attend. He was upset as his oldest is 19 which means she's "an adult" but I wasn't going to invite just 1 of them so I said no to all 4. I told them space was the issue and he understood (this was according to my mom as she's the one who told him no kids because apparently when the invite said Mr and Mrs LastName, he took that to mean his party of SIX was invited.

My sister think because she's my sister that she can do what she want to do. Its my wedding day not hers. But she will get over it!

I don't think you're wrong at all. We also decided not to have any kids, there are only two exceptions: our flower girl and ring bearer, who will be taken home by their babysitter after the ceremony, and my friend's two teenage children (15 and 13) because the whole family is traveling from out of state. Aside from them, no kids allowed. Nothing to feel bad about, in my opinion.

I am one that feels if you do not want kids, then that is your choice and fully ok. I have three kids, but completely understand no kid weddings.

People should understand 1) It is not their wedding and 2) not everyone thinks your toddler running around and screaming is cute, nor is someone else's wedding the place to show off your kids...it is their wedding and about them, not about you.

No hold your ground. The majority of my friends didn't even want their kids at the wedding. We simply can't afford the extra people, we have a small guest list as it is. We've only had trouble from FH mom. She wanted his 12 and 14 year old cousins to come but we couldn't do that without offending other people. You gotta do what you gotta do. They will understand.

We're totally team no kids at weddings and only 1 person pushed back on this with us. FH shut him down real quick. Just make sure you and your FH are on the same page about this and you stay firm on the decision. I have a friend who caved because of her now husband and il's and they still fight about it 5 years later.

I'm having a no kid ceremony and my sister tried the exact same thing and she has 4! My son and daughter are our FG/RB and we hired a babysitter for the ceremony. Your wedding is a time to celebrate you and your hubby without having to chase children around, wonder what they're doing, stress about things getting messed up. We wanted something small and intimate.. if we added children we'd be in the hundreds!!

Not at all. It's your day. My FH has a stepdaughter who recently had a baby we sent her a text stating that the baby can not come to the wedding 2 weeks ago. She hasn't responded to it. If she doesn't come that's an extra seat to invite another adult
