Need tips for address printing

Hailey, on July 29, 2014 at 7:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

Anyone out there who printed (as in, with a printer, not by hand) invite addresses directly on the envelope? At home? At an office supply store? Please share any tips that made things easier for you!

Thanks!

I printed them right on envelopes through Microsoft word! It worked great. I ran a couple tests first to make sure it printed properly and centered. There's a way to "mail merge" addresses from excel directly into word but I couldn't figure that out so I just typed in the address, printed it, then did the next one. Make sure you have back up ink and extra envelopes!

I used mail merge. It's not that difficult. you have to have your list already saved in Excel. Doesn't have to be saved any special way at all you just have to have columns labeled for each line of the address and the name that you want to use. In Word go up to the mailings tab to start mail merge, choose envelope. you'll have to measure your envelopes exactly so the paper's the right size in word. And then you in import the addresses by following the directions. For the main envelope I used the calligraphy Font. The hard thing was the reply envelopes because they were so small. We tried three different printers and only one of them would print on it. Because that printer was at my in-laws we ended up using address labels which really didn't look good but I didn't care at that point. Good luck! Let me know if you have any other detailed questions about Excel.

We used Avery's 3" x 4" clear labels and printed those & (carefully) put them on the envelopes. It was nice to be able to just print a new label for any corrections instead of wasting a whole envelope. They turned out very well & we got tons of compliments on them. Good luck!

I also used Word and just typed out each one. I had a few practice runs but once you get it setup how you want it it's pretty easy. I put this project off for a while because I thought it would be harder than it really was. I did about 100 and it took less than 2 hours!

If you have a lot of people from different cities and states I suggest grouping your list by city so you don't have to change the city, state, and zip code every time if you chose to type them individually. About half way through I wished I had done that!

I also used word and they came out great! I just googled the instructions, just make sure you have the right envelope size.

I ruined 9 envelopes trying to get it right, so make sure you have extras! Also, if I didn't allow my printer enough time between envelopes, it would smudge a little. Then again, I don't have the world's best printer. Good luck!

I printed directly onto our envelopes using word processor (I was having issues with Microsoft word) & I love how they turned out.

I also used mail merge in word, and our envelopes turned out great. I used the laser printer at work (so bad) and it looks like they were professionally printed.

I recently read that it's a lot more personal if you hand write them. I completely understand both sides of this. The article I read also said you could make it seem like it's handwritten by printing it in a light grey and tracing it. Just a thought!

I did this! I sent my invites on Saturday- and have gotten a TON of compliments on the addresses. It was super easy, took about an hour to do all 115 or so.

I had to do a couple testers. I downloaded the avery 5x7 envelope template, and then just tested where i wanted the address to go! Although mail merge would have been MUCH easier (and if you are good with computers- DO THAT), I just literally pasted each address into my template and printed! Easy peasy!

I encourage checking out Dafont.com for fonts. We printed on labels but I have had a few people comment on how it looked like real font. I choose a circle label to make it seem more deliberate that we printed on labels....I would have preferred calligraphy but I wasn't about to take the time to do one by one print and then copy in a darker pen and I was cheap that I didn't want to pay for a calligrapher as well as it was impossible to find someone to do where I lived (even when offering to pay someone). Anyways...I think hand calligraphied envelopes are stunning but I guess my IDGAF came into play because I am pretty happy with what we ended up with.
