Need some clarification

Hannah, on August 14, 2017 at 1:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

FH aunt has told me that wedding invites go out 6-8 weeks in advanced. Can somebody clarify if that 6-8 weeks is of the wedding date or of the time you need a final count for catering and all that.

I know this may be a stupid question but let's just be honest I didn't even know there was a such thing as a bridal luncheon until someone offered to throw one for me haha.

So I just want to make sure I get it right, 6-8 weeks of the wedding date or of the time frame for final counts?

6-8 weeks prior to the wedding date is what all major etiquette sources recommend.

Typically it is within 6-8 weeks of your wedding date. The RSVP date is what needs to be adjusted for your final numbers. I think you are supposed to make the RSVP return date two weeks before your numbers are due.

We are mailing ours out more than 8 weeks before, giving guests plenty of time to respond. The venue needs a count a week before but I wanted to make sure we gave ourselves enough time to reach out to individuals who do not RSVP.

    Timeline

    Mailing Out: 1/12

Due Back: 3/9 (allows us enough time to contact people and not be too stressed)

    Venue Count: 3/23

    Wedding: 3/31

Eh, I did mine 8 weeks before the RSVP date and it was fine. I had them all ready and was too excited to wait.

Anymore than that and you might have an issue but either way is fine, imo.

@Lauren-you are going to have a lot of people who are going to think a) you have a b-list; or b) that you will have to contact. I'd move your mail out date two weeks.

I think proper etiquette dictates they be sent 6-8 weeks before the wedding date. However, some caterers need final numbers more than 2 weeks before so that leaves the bride with a tight timeline to contact all missing RSVPs. In my circles, invitations are sent way in advance (2-3 months before the wedding). My friend sent hers out in May for a November wedding!! We sent ours out already (2 weeks ago) as most of my guests are OOT and I wanted give them enough time to determine the cost of travel.

My venue needs final number almost an entire month in advanced. That's where I'm confused on needing to send out invites.

I would push back on your venue about that. Requesting the final count a month prior to the event is absurd! The venue I used to work at was 72 hours before the event, and our caterer needed 5 days. 1-2 weeks prior is more than enough time for any professional venue.

I know 6-8 weeks is standard, but we received one for a November wedding a few weeks ago. I didn't think anything of it except maybe they are just excited!

We sent ours about two months before the wedding (8-9 weeks), and our RSVP date was one month before, which gave me two weeks to follow up with guests before we had to hand in numbers.

I'm actually doing the same as @Lauren. Our hotel actually needs for my guests to book their rooms by Feb 8th, so this time frame gives guests plenty of time to respond to the wedding and book their rooms.
