My dress.. Opinions??

Nicole, on October 25, 2014 at 8:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

I wanted a simple, no fluff kind of dress... I am not a girly girl so I think this fits me well. What is your opinion? :o) Yay or Nay?

If that is the look you are going for I believe it is perfect. I do love the little bit of embellishment along the bust!!!

I'm just guessing, but did you try on every kind of dress in your price range? There's something about your post that is telling me your settling. Here's my ceremony dress. It cost $400 including alterations. Here is also my reception dress, also $400 after alterations. It's a really pretty dress, don't get me wrong. I just have an uneasy feeling that it's not the one for you.

No... I love my dress. Im just not a fan of any kind of dress lol. I don't like the way I look in them. I tried on more then one dress. So ill always have that hesitation because of the fact that I don't like dresses haha

I think it looks nice....but if you don't care for dresses, do you want to spend $$ on a wedding dress, which are typically more expensive? No judgenent, just curious Smiley smile

I think it's simple and classic... Perhaps not a "wow" dress, but it definitely isn't unflattering. If you're not sold on it, you should keep looking. Just because you don't normally feel like a girly dress girl, doesn't mean you can't wear a gorgeous "girly" dress on your wedding day!

I feel like the straps look a little weird.

And check out bridesmaid dresses. A lot of them you can get in white/ivory; it's actually what I did.

I actually changed up the straps on the dress... they are embellished with pearls and beads now.... so that kind of adds more "flare" I isn't a wow dress but that not what i wanted... i like those dresses on other girls but not myself... Smiley smile

I like it. Smiley smile I like a more simple look myself too. Here is me in mine. I think it's pretty simple compared to like a ballgown or mermaid style or something like that. Those styles just aren't for me even though they do look pretty on other people, but just didn't feel right for me.

I was dead set against a veil but I think at my next fitting I may try one again to add something more .... I think my dress is me.... If a wore a big ball gown style dress I would feel so uncomfortable.... Its beautiful on others just not my cup of tea

I think it's definitely simple. Only because you asked for an actually yay or nay opinion I have to say nay. You have a gorgeous figure and I think there's probably a dress that will maintain its simplicity while showcasing you better.

I don't have a pic of my dress, it is being ordered. But, I will tell you what the bridal consultant told me after she rang up my sale this past Monday: "I tell all my girls you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to find a beautiful wedding gown." I like simple too, with some minor detailing to give it just enough wow factor. I wasn't liking any of the heavily beaded dresses, the fit and flairs, the mermaids, the ball gowns on me. I ended up with a very simple organza A-line with a little detail at under the breast similar to yours (cut out flowers with crystals), and then the dress goes completely plain matte organza, then at the very bottom there are cutout flowers with crystals in them. The back of the dress does have crystal buttons down the back zipper, but really very plain and not trendy, more classic/traditional. I learned with wedding dress shopping (I've tried on approximately 30 dresses) that it isn't what is trending or looks good on someone else, it is what YOU picture yourself walking down the aisle in! From one simple girl to another, I think you look stunning. Don't forget you will have your hair and makeup done too, and with a simple dress there are so many options for accessorizing.

Thank you all for the feedback. I was just trying to see if there are other "simple style" girls out there like me... I was feeling kind of lonely look at all the super snazzy dresses. That are amazing don't get me wrong :o) We all make beautiful brides no matter our personal styles

Nicole, that's a lovely dress - very pretty! My dress is a bridesmaid dress, because I couldn't find many wedding dresses that weren't sparkle-lace-embellished/Disney-fied. It was really difficult!

The one thing I would suggest, given that you don't wear dresses often, is that you consider adding a thicker strap - they can make them, or some shops can order 'stock' pre-made ones. This gives you more support than spaghetti straps, let's you have more bra options, and is more comfortable b/c you're not constantly slipping them back into place.

I'm adding straps (minus the bling) like the one shown on the dress below. They cost $30 to order, and will cost about $40 to attach inside the dress. Just an idea...

I think it looks great. I kept my dress simple too and I felt beautiful on my wedding day. I'm on my phone so I can't post pics, but here is a link to some non-pro pics.

I'm not a fan of frills, ruffles, pickups, and ultra feminine garb either. If this is the gown you feel great in, then it's the gown for you. I like the gown -- it's white, and there is no doubt that the woman wearing it is the bride. I'm going to give you two suggestions: it needs to be hemmed, and I would suggest, as have others, that you add more substantial straps (and by substantial, I don't mean beading on the spaghetti straps that are already there...I mean replacing them with thicker straps). That's it. Beyond that, you're ready to go.
