Must have wedding decor?

Kaylee, on July 30, 2018 at 6:06 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

Hi All!

I'm having a reception only wedding this October (we already had a small ceremony with just our family this month), and I'm curious what will be the must have wedding decor for the reception? We're trying to keep the wedding under budget, so I was thinking of including the following only:

1. Guest book table and decor

2. Gift table and decor

3. Escort card display

4. Dinner table centerpieces and other decor

Are welcome sign, wedding backdrop, sweetheart table backdrop, dessert table backdrop/cake stand or any others you all think necessary/must have?

How fun, Kaylee! You'll probably get a lot of helpful ideas here. Here's my two cents...

    1) Guest book/table isn't necessary. Only if you want it.

    2) Sure. This won't need too much.

    3) There are several options for this. 1 seating chart, or a place card at each seat. Not sure all of the pros/cons of all the options. We went with place cards at each place setting.

    4) Yes! If flower centerpieces are too expensive you could do: silk flowers, candles, candelabras, lanterns. Seen lanterns at Big Lots, Michaels, JoAnns for $5-$25 depending on the size. We used gold candelabras for our long dining tables--only about $20 each and we used three.

Did you choose your venue yet? They may have a few things you can use: cake cutter, cake plate. If you haven't selected one yet, it would be great to find a lovely venue (i.e. garden, private room in a restaurant, museum) that already has a cool look so you don't need to do as much decor. I feel like it should be reflective of you and your partner. So whatever you envision, should be there. There's nothing that should be a must have i less YOU absolutely have to have it. A reception is a celebration party. So music, food and dancing!!!

Thanks all! We’d rather put the money towards better food/drinks if some decors are not necessary. I just kept running into posts with checklists that include these and wonder if I should do it. We are planning the wedding within 4 months so whatever makes my life easier, I’d appreciate more Smiley smile

Hi Kaylee! Agreeing with the others, I think the four you have listed is just fine! Everything else is just extra stuff that is great if you have room in the budget for it, but definitely not required by any means! Since your wedding is in October, are you going with a Halloween theme or sticking to just colors?

I think with the backdrops, it depends on how your reception venue looks like. Ours is outdoors and is surrounded by water and gorgeous mountains. Putting any backdrops would defeat the purpose of our surroundings (another reason why I'm not decorating too much with flowers because with the natural scenic background, it's not necessary).

I definitely agree with you that having a backdrop when the scenery outside is so beautiful is unnecessary. Our reception is at a golf club, I need to come out there again to see if there’s even a space that makes sense to do a backdrop. I do like the way it was when I visited the first time. Here’s a link to my venue.
