Music Selection... What are you guys doing?

Jennifer S., on June 24, 2013 at 6:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

So I'm attempting to put together a playlist for our september wedding. I'm stumped. What are you guys using for your ceremony music? My main problem is my fiance's family is very conservative. Basically if they hear secular music and it has any cuss words, or questionable words or topics they will leave the room and FH will never hear the end of it. I don't want to use instrumentals at all except maybe when I walk in during the ceremony. What kind of music are you guys using? Any suggestions?

**Side note: His family is not paying for anything. We are paying for the whole thing ourselves. In cash. We have had no help from family at all. I tell FH all the time that we should play the kind of music that we want because of this, but he wants to not have any more drama than we are already expecting to have.**

I'm so in love with this song, I'm telling everyone what it is lol. Bright Eyes "First Day of My Life" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwFS69nA-1w bridal party will walk out to Vitamin String Quartet version of "Helena" (originally by My Chemical Romance.) After we're married, our recessional song will be Led Zeppelin "All of MY Love"

Just for the Helena one (It's a really beautiful instrumental version.) I love the lyrics to the Bright Eyes song. It's a meaningful song to FH and I and I really wanted to share it.

The best way is to ask your DJ. Some thing you might like but your guests not, or not all guests. DJ know how to make everybody happy.

I hope you will find other useful information on my site that will help you prepare for the wedding.

We are hiring at harpist and violinist for the ceremony and cocktail hour (very reasonable &dollarSmiley winking

Our families are walking in to the instrumental "Somewhere over the Rainbow". The BP is coming in to Owl City's "Fireflies". And I am walking in to "Pure Imagination" originally from Willy Wonka, but we're using the Glee version. We are doing a Moment to Remember for our departed family members to "I'll Be Seeing You". And our processional is "I've Just Seen a Face", the Across the Universe version. This is all instrumental, so it will sound "classic" but be fun and whimsical, like us Smiley laugh

That's what I was thinking. The Vitamin String Quartet has like all my favorite songs as instrumentals, so that way I can get away with playing my music without offending anyone in FH's family! BTW @marisa I LOVE the glee version of that song! makes me cry every time i listen to it!
