Mother-son dance alternatives? FMIL in cast, help!

Patricia, on June 6, 2011 at 4:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

My FMIL fell & broke her ankle 2 months ago. She's in an air cast after getting the hard one removed (she had to have surgery w/pins and a plate- it was broken in 3 spots). She didn't keep her foot elevated enough or high enough and has a LOT of residual swelling & pain (the doc wouldn't even schedule physical therapy for her until the swelling goes down). She's not supposed to put weight on her ankle yet somehow thinks in less than 3wks she'll be well enough for a mother-son dance. I took off Friday to take her for her fitting & other errands and that was really hard for her- ankle much more swollen and purple.

Does anyone have any ideas for an alternative to a dance??? She does have a wheelchair and walker, but I know she'll be caught dead before being in either (she JUST now accepted the fact she won't be wearing heels for the wedding) yet somehow hopes she'll be driving by then. HELP!!

Have a special presentation instead of the dance. Maybe flowers like Devine mentioned, or some other special gift. You could even have your FH find any pics he can of the two of them from when he was growing up and do a short presentation while you FH says something special or reads a poem to her. Have the DJ announce that in place of the mother son dance you will be doing a mother son tribute or something along those lines.

Put together a slide presentation or video with pictures of her son and her doing things together, add some encouraging words of wisdom between scenes and a efw heart-felt messages from FH to her. She'll STEAL the show Smiley smile
