MiLR: (Rant) Telling someone who they can and can't bring as a date...

Miya, on April 13, 2011 at 4:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

So a few of the WW know that I ranted this before but I just really had to let it all out. People here know I can be a bitch but man, my MIL takes the cake.

DH has a gay uncle (who is in his 60s and is MIL's brother). He's a really sweet and loving old man that I loved hanging out with while I was in Ireland. Anyway, this gay uncle has a boyfriend (who is in his mid-20s). No biggie. Older guy, younger man. I've seen it all before.

Now, MIL went and talked to her brother about how he couldn't bring his boyfriend to MY wedding as his date.

EXCUSE ME?! WTF did you just say to him?

Last I checked, DH and I were paying for our wedding and we can invite whoever the fack we want. YOU (MiL) do not get a say in who can and can't go. It's tough enough being Catholic and gay but sh*t, at my wedding, all loved ones are welcome including the ones they love - whether they are gay or straight.

I seriously nearly lost it when I heard (on skype) what she said to DH's dear old uncle.

Anyway, I didn't have to say anything to her because DH told her to back off. It's OUR wedding guest list and not hers.

Afterwards I had DH call his uncle and reassure him that he could bring his boyfriend to the church ceremony and reception.

I swear to God, she's going to drive me batty once I'm planning the Ireland ceremony/reception.

I'd stick to her side. Uncle cannot bring his boyfriend as his date. Boyfriend will get his OWN invite.

@Meghan: I think that would be a great work around but it wasn't that he wasn't going to get invited or anything, it's just that MiL didn't want the BF there. (Which I thought was kind of mean.)

Wow if I were FH's Uncle I'd make sure she got a good eyeful of some serious ass grabbing during the ceremony... J/K but that was not a nice thing to do I'm glad DH took care of it for you.. best of luck with the rest of the planning!
