Meal for Ceremony Musicians?

Jen D., on April 18, 2016 at 11:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Let me start by saying that I absolutely 100% intend to feed my vendors. I know the coordinator, DJ, and photographers who will be there all day have to have a meal and I would absolutely never even think of not providing one.

My question is for the ceremony musicians. If they're only there to play for the ceremony do they need to be included for vendor meals? They will not be playing for the reception at all.

If it were one or two people, I wouldn't even worry about it, but FH has his heart set on a small wind band playing for the ceremony instead of your usual string quartet or piano (or recording). FH is a band director and I play flute and "band" is very important to us. I'm just trying to decide if I need to be planning on feeding these extra 10-12 people.

Is your ceremony and reception in the same venue?

I had this question too. We had 2 acoustic guitarists and they did our ceremony and cocktail hour for 2.5 hours.. I could not find anything in their contract so I asked them point blank. I had no problem feeding them but they said it wasn't necessary. If it's just for ceremony, I would say probably not.

If they're not staying for the reception, I don't think you need to feed them. Even if they arrive an hour before the ceremony and leave an hour after it ends, they'll only be there for what, 3 hours max? I'd assume they'll be going home to eat.

ETA: Are they traveling far? That's the one instance in which I would provide a meal.

No.. they will likely be planning on leaving right after the ceremony. If they are lucky, they may even have another booking Smiley winking

They are the same venue but there will be a cocktail hour between and the ceremony musicians will not be involved in anything other than the ceremony. I expect the ceremony to be maybe 30 minutes, so not much more than an hour of total time including warm-up and playing beforehand.

If they are just playing for the ceremony then they will likely take off right away. I don't think you need to feed someone who will be there less than two hours.

I don't think so. They may not even be able to stay
